🎬 Shooting with the Sony Venice & Great Joy Anamorphics - How to choose the right equipment? 🎥

We recently had the pleasure of shooting with the Sony Venice and Great Joy anamorphic lenses - a combination that gave us exactly the cinematic look we were looking for.

But how do you actually decide on the right equipment?

🔹 Look & storytelling - Anamorphic lenses give the image a very unique aesthetic: wider field of view, unique bokeh and characteristic flares. Perfect if you want to create an epic, cinematic atmosphere.

🔹 Dynamic range & lighting conditions - With its dual ISO and 15+ f-stops, the Sony Venice offers incredible flexibility, especially in difficult lighting conditions.

🔹 Budget vs. quality - High-end equipment is not always necessary. The important thing is that the chosen setup optimally supports the creative vision. The Great Joys deliver an anamorphic look at a fair price - an exciting alternative to more expensive cine optics.

📽 Our experience: The combination of the Venice and Great Joy lenses has given us an organic, cinematic look without compromising on quality or flexibility.

🎬 Dreh mit der Sony Venice & Great Joy Anamorphics – Wie wählt man das richtige Equipment? 🎥

I don't think I ever shot with anamorphics in the past. Haven't seen the Venice in use either; mostly used the Arri Mini/ARMIA or the film versions. I think I left the UK film industry right about the time that anamorphics started becoming the hot thing though.

I'd love to own some (more affordable) anamorphics one day though. I have a Soviet Helios 44-2 that displays a similar bokeh which is really fun though. Those get rehoused for modern cine mounts these days.

Cool to see a filmmaker here though! There used to be many more of us in the past.
