The blind horse and the beautiful mountains

DSCF3134.JPG

Took this picture on a hike near Quinten in Switzerland

The wind carves its silent elegy across the jagged mountains, a hymn lost in the vast, indifferent sky. At the base of these towering monoliths, a horse stands, its coat dulled by time and dust, its eyes unseeing. It breathes, deeply, steadily, as if listening to the world in ways no sighted creature ever could.

Mountains loom behind it, ancient and immovable, their grandeur wasted on the one who cannot behold them. Yet, does beauty require an audience to exist? Or does it persist regardless, unbothered by perception, unshaken by the need for validation? The horse does not lament its blindness; it does not grieve the lost horizon. It walks, slow and sure, hooves pressing into the earth, feeling the world rather than looking upon it.

Perhaps sight is a burden. The distractions of color and form, the weight of horizons ever receding, the illusion of grasping that which is eternally distant—do these not confound the mind more than they clarify? The blind horse moves with certainty because it does not chase after the ephemeral. It knows only what it touches, what it breathes, what resonates beneath its hooves.

The mountains do not call out to be seen, just as the horse does not yearn to see them. They exist in tandem, without expectation, without demand. In this, they are alike. The horse, unshaken by the grandeur that surrounds it, teaches us something about the nature of being. To move through existence without the burden of needing to behold—to simply be—is that not the purest form of freedom?

The wind continues its silent hymn, and the horse walks on, steady and unworried, into the infinite embrace of the unseen world.

Photography is an art. Interpreting the photograph is something above art. You have achieved this, my friend. Thank you for your work.

That picture of the horse is very beautiful, it could be used perfectly to promote a movie!
