On the dirt road west of Montalbán, the one that climbs to the peaks of the mountains called “La Copa” and “El Peñón”, there are plenty of interesting sites, almost always vantage points favored with spectacular views of the town and the agricultural areas of the valley. However, “Los Burriquitos” is best known for the long concrete ramps that cover portions of the road. These structures were built with the intention of improving the traction of the 4x4 vehicles in certain places where the slope is so severe that it made these vehicles skid and rollover during the rainy season, when they tried to go or come through this road... One of these ramps is over 200 meters long and has a really impressive slope, which is why it is used by many people to exercise and at the same time to be able to measure more or less accurately the distance they travel... It is in this place where I took these pictures. It is a place which I visit relatively often because it is only 1,5 Km from the urban edge of the town, so it is easy to reach it.
Por el camino de tierra al Oeste Montalbán, el que sube a las cimas de las montañas llamadas "La Copa" y "El Peñón", existen un montón de sitios interesantes, casi siempre se trata de miradores favorecidos con vistas espectaculares del pueblo y de las áreas agrícolas del valle. Sin embargo "Los Burriquitos" es más bien conocido por las largas ramplas de concreto que cubren algunas porciones del camino. Estas estructuras fueron construidas con la intención de mejorar la tracción de los vehículos 4x4 en determinados lugares en donde las pendiente es tan severa que hacía patinar y volcar estos vehículos en la temporada de lluvias, cuando estos intentaban ir o venir a través de esta vía... Uno de esas ramplas sobrepasa los 200 mt de longitud y tiene una pendiente realmente impresionante, razón por la cual es utilizada por muchas personas para ejercitarse y al mismo tiempo poder medir de manera más o menos precisa la distancia que recorren... Es en este lugar desde donde hice estas fotografías. Es un lugar el cual recorro con relativa frecuencia pues está amenos de kilometro y medio del margen urbano del pueblo, así que es fácil llegar a el...
In the mornings, “Los Burriquitos” has the particularity of seeming to be located at a height from where you can observe from above the fog that rests majestically over the valley. It is even frequent that suddenly some wind blows from the East and some swirls of fog advance over the mountain and the place is partially covered with it, allowing the sunlight pass through in a charming way, especially if you want to take pictures... These pictures that I brought to share with you today, I took them precisely in one of those mornings in which I decided to go out to exercise a little and I left the streets of the town to go up this road. Fortunately I always have my camera hanging around my neck when I do this. The truth is that I would hate to have gone up to “Los Burriquitos” that day without taking my camera and having to observe this wonderful scenery without being able to record it...
Durante las mañanas, "Los Burriquitos" tiene la particularidad de parecer estar ubicado a una altura desde donde se comienza a observar desde arriba la niebla que se posa de manera majestuosa sobre el valle. Incluso, es frecuente el que repentinamente sople algo de viento desde el Este y algunos girones de niebla avancen sobre la montaña y el lugar se cubra parcialmente con esta, dejando pasar la luz solar de manera encantadora en especial si deseas hacer fotos... Estas fotografías que traje para compartir aquí con ustedes hoy, las hice precisamente en una de esas mañanas en las cuales decidí salir a ejercitarme un poco y dejé las calles del pueblo para subir por este camino. Afortunadamente siempre traigo mi cámara colgando al cuello cuando hago esto. La verdad es que odiaría haber subido hasta "Los Burriquitos" ese día sin haber llevado mi cámara y tener que observar este maravilloso escenario sin poder registrarlo...
The name “Los Burriquitos” ("The little donkeys") has nothing to do with animals in this place, but with a kind of epiphyte plant which grew on the trees in this section of the road and whose flowers apart from having a delicious and very strong fragrance that filled the whole place, also had a certain resemblance to the head of a donkey with long ears... Unfortunately today is almost impossible to find this plant species here. The continuous fires and the climate change in our valley seem to have affected the habitat to the point of disappearing. Although it is still possible to find some specimens in the older gardens of the village. But the disappearance of this plant in the natural environment still seems to me a tremendous loss. I remember coming here as a child to cut these fragrant flowers to take them to my grandmother and my mother.... That was almost half a century ago, but now they are gone... :(
El nombre "Los Burriquitos" no tiene que ver nada con animales en el lugar, sino con una especie de planta epífita la cual crecía sobre los árboles en este tramo del camino y cuyas flores aparte de poseer un aroma delicioso y muy fuerte que llenaba todo el lugar, también tenía cierta semejanza con la cabeza de un borrico con orejas largas... Lamentablemente, hoy por hoy es casi imposible hallar esta especie de planta aquí. Los continuos incendios y el cambio del clima en nuestro valle parecen haber afectado su hábitat al extremo de haber hecho desaparecer. Aunque aún es posible encontrar algunos ejemplares en los jardines más viejos del pueblo. Pero la desaparición de esta planta en su ambiente natural me sigue pareciendo una pérdida tremenda. Recuerdo venir aquí siendo un niño a cortar esas olorosas flores para llevarlas a mi abuela y a mi madre... De eso hace casi medio siglo, pero ahora ya no están... :(

ADDITIONAL TECHNICAL NOTE: Photographs captured with my Nikon D7000 DSLR camera in RAW format, then processed in Adobe Camera RAW for adjustments regarding light, sharpening, contrast and depth... They were then exported to JGP format on which minor modifications such as straightening and adding watermarks were carried out using PhotoScape 3.6.3.
NOTA TÉCNICA ADICIONAL: Fotografias capturadas con mi cámara DSLR Nikon D7000 en formato RAW, procesadas posteriormente en Adobe Camera RAW para ajustes relativos a luz, afilado, contraste y profundidad... Luego fueron exportadas a formato JGP sobre el cual se llevaron a cabo modificaciones menores como enderezado y agregado de marcas de agua usando PhotoScape 3.6.3.
