Happy Caturday: another day at the temple with stray cats.

Time really flew by at incredible speed this past week. I hardly had the time to sit quietly and plan about the future. Things were moving very fast as I tried to finish all the tasks I had to finish each day. Despite my busy schedule, I had to remember to buy more cat food for feeding temple cats by the river. These cats put some solid and practical structure into everyday life.

Lately there have been several new kittens at the temple with some lovely Siamese cats that has been adopted by visitors to the temple. Sometimes I was surprised that some mother cats could have such nice colours kittens. It took me some weeks to remember which kittens belonged to which mother cats. This season I could see more kittens with ginger colour. I wondered whether these kittens had the same father cat. There must have been a very dominant ginger male cat around, but I couldn’t find him around the temple. Perhaps he had moved on to make more ginger kittens.

A few of my favorite cats had disappeared for over three weeks, I still couldn’t get over these missing cars. I went around the temple shouting their names our loud disturbing the quiet atmosphere, some monks gave me serious stare as they didn’t like cats. I guessed it was quite uncomfortable for the skinny monk who tried to look after these cats and feeding them around his abode. But these cats kept running out to the car park.

The other day I saw him going around sweeping the ground as some cats left quite smelly mess around the ground. So, as an expression of my appreciation for his good effort, I bought him and his cats a big bag of cat food. This could help in cutting down his monthly expense a little. I wished I could have been able to afford some contribution towards the vet’s bills as some kittens were sick lately.

To keep several kittens from roaming about and causing nuisance to other monks, this skinny monk had to keep these kittens locked up in a room during daytime. That room was very damp so some kittens became ill. My cats sometimes slept in the garden under sunshine and I chased them around the garden forcing them to run for their exercises. There were no longer big old trees in Yannawa temple, the old canal had also gone so people couldn’t row their boats to the river any more. How things had transformed during the last fifty years in the name of progress and modernisation.

Had the temple kept a garden with old trees; some small animals like lizards, frogs, snakes, birds and squirrels could have been able to survive thus providing some sort of ecological system to support wild and stray animals. With concrete jungle inside the temple, ordinary mice have become available as preys for hungry stray cats. These cats were left at the mercy of human beings who would be kind enough to feed them. Sometimes I got worried about the missing cats and my one favourite cat.

Two friendly young cats just became mother cats, but I couldn’t locate where they hid their kittens. These two became so skinny as they separated themselves from other cats. That skinny monk couldn’t be expected to take a walk to the other corner of the temple just to feed these two mother cats. So, I had to give them extra food and clean water twice a week. The vendors in the temple and the nuns began to talk to me and ask questions about these cats. I guess they couldn’t be seen as openly looking after these stray cats. Most people still regard stray cats as a nuisance and dirty.

I usually communicate with these cats with my mind and my voice as I believe most cats are very sensitive to psychic vibes and our emotions reflected in the tone of voices. So far, my experiments have vindicated my hypothesis; I could even ask cats to come running towards me as if they were puppies. And I could scold aggressive cats and trespassing dogs to leave these cats alone. Two weeks ago, I could send a big Alsatian dog running back to his owner by telling him off; he did chase the mother cats away and ate up all the food! I was a bit uncertain about his reaction as he was quite big with sharp teeth. But I stood my ground and walked towards him to chase him away. On the flip side, he could have bitten me or attack me out of anger but he looked into my eyes and back away.

Crazy things people could do for their pets and helpless animals. I walked softly inside the house whenever my cats were sleeping on the table. (I was supposed to do my reading on this table but it’s now cats’ table.). So, I dragged myself out to feed these stray cats under hot sunshine and got scolded by some rich people’s chauffeurs. The complaint was that these cats made scratches on the expensive German cars. I just had to let go for the sake of these cats, otherwise I could be in a big fight with these heartless people. I just hope that I could continue to feed these temple cats as long as I could under usual circumstances.

See you.

Sort:

Beautiful cats, and one cat is a mix with a Siamese.

I get scared of seeing black cats. Maybe it is because l don't have cats.

Some black cats are very nice and gentle. But mostly they behave like gangsters or mafia!

Yay! 🤗
