This was a strange Saturday as we had heavy rainfall early in the morning. This time of the year was supposed to be the height of hot summer month. Though the temperature was very high for several days; the sudden drop of temperature with windy and rainy mood has pleasantly cooled down the house and surroundings. The train journey was delayed as the old train engine refused to start up twice. By the time I arrived at the farmhouse, the sky was dark and the night has cooled down a little. We had to get all the bags and belongings up inside the house. As soon as the driver left the front gate, I could hear my cat’s meowing at the back of the garden.
Kwan was in a good playful mood in the morning.
These cats could never get used to loud engine noises so they would run and hide somewhere safe to observe what’s happening. Once they were certain I was actually inside the house, they would gingerly emerge from their hiding places. Usually Kwan would be the first to greet me with ten minutes’ meowing. I reckoned she was complaining and telling me how bad she felt being left alone for two weeks. Her meowing really sounded like a small child crying and grumbling at the same time. I had to agree with her complaints and told her I agreed she didn’t deserve to be left to fend for herself quite often.
During the past week, my gardener told me that there was another big white cat with long tail who started to terrorise my orange cats. Normally there has been one black and white cat, about two years old, who has been very persistent and daring. He would crouch on the lawn watching me playing with my cats. I had to chase him away towards to gate as I didn’t want him to get used to being here without being disturbed! This cat was quite aggressive as I had to intervene in a quarrel between Joan and Blacky at the gate. He wanted to enter the house to eat cat food available in two bowls in the kitchen. Evidently he has been sneaking in during the night to feast on the cat food. We found empty bowls several times in the morning!
But Blacky has stationed himself at my neighbours’ house after he frightened my first orange cat away. He wouldn’t allow Joan to visit that house any more. My gardener told me that Blacky has become the king of that house. My neighbours left some food for him everyday. So, I wondered why he continued to sneak into my garden! He wasn’t looking for friends as he was aggressive towards my cats.
The second white cat with small black dots, Whitey, is much bigger than my cats. My gardener saw that Whitey was inside the garden. Whitey came to search for some cat food. The bowls were emptied but my cats disappeared. My gardener called out for orange cats and found them meowing around the house. Joan was on the roof as he climbed up the small tree and jumped onto the tin roof of the storage room. Kwan climbed up the two meters’ water tank; she was perching on top of the rain-water tank! I haven’t met Whitey yet; I do want to see him face to face so we could have a negotiation.
I fed my cats some goodies and snacks two hours after their breakfast. This has become a routine for them; they would sit and wait for their snack in the morning. After the light snacks, they both would go to sleep. These cats give me some structures to my time management and routine tasks to fulfill each day. They have made my life very meaningful in a strange way. The complete trust they have in me amazed and surprised me at the same time. I could pull their legs and drag them around without any protest. I could force feed medicine to Kwan with ease as she complied with my order to ‘open your mouth’. Kwan never has any hard feeling towards me; I had to give her some eye drops for infection which has flared up again. But she still felt comfortable as this time it wasn’t as bad as last month.
I do wish I could heal my cats of all kinds of illness. They couldn’t tell me about their discomfort or pain; they just have lots of patience to bear the pain. I have to become more observant of any signs of irregular behaviours and physical appearance of my cats. I felt quite a relief to be with my orange cats again and seeing them in good health. I hope to be able to look after my cats until their old age.
Wishing you peace, good health and prosperity.
Stay strong and cheerful.
So cute when they sleep together like that :D
Glad you like my orange cats! They are much bigger but still very timid! I ought to teach them Thai boxing when they were younger!
Yay! 🤗
