The Corinth Canal is an artificial waterway carved out of the Isthmus of Corinth to pass easily from the Gulf of Corinth to the Saronic Gulf.
The idea for the Corinth Canal came long before its realization as there are traces that date back to the 7th century BC.
Even Julius Caesar, Caligula, and Nero flirted with this idea.
The project has failed to see the light of day several times since 1830, but has always encountered problems that have prevented it.
It was therefore only in 1893 that it was inaugurated, after 11 years of work.
It's amazing how small a boat can look in the middle of nature like this.
After all of these issues, it's disappointing to admit that the channel hasn't been as popular as expected.
The narrowness of the canal, tidal currents, landslides and various accidents in the canal make it more of a tourist attraction than a reliable transport route.
Indeed, many modern ships cannot venture there because it is much too narrow because the channel is only 21.4 meters wide at its narrowest point. Pity !
