SÜDWESTKIRCHHOF STAHNSDORF

Today is part 2 of my trip to the Sübwestkirchhof Stahnsdorf. You can find the first part, with some background information on the history of the cemetery, here:

Large parts of the cemetery look like they are from another world. Many of the old graves are overgrown and seem to be in a deep sleep. Some of the graves can no longer be reached without a machete. I was very impressed. I've never seen anything like it before. I'm afraid I couldn't really capture this special atmosphere, this tranquillity and abandonment in the pictures. I recommend a visit to this special cemetery to anyone who happens to be in the area.

Große Teile des Friedhofs wirken wie aus einer anderen Welt. Viele der alten Grabstellen sind zugewuchert und wirken wie im Dornröschenschlaf. An einige Gräber kommt man ohne Machete nicht mehr heran. Mich hat das sehr beeindruckt. Etwas Ähnliches habe ich zuvor noch nie gesehen. Ich befürchte, in den Bildern konnte ich diese besondere Stimmung, diese Ruhe und Verlassenheit nicht richtig einfangen. Ich empfehle jedem, der mal in der Nähe sein sollte, einen Besuch dieses besonderen Friedhofs.

WHAT IS LIGHT PAINTING?

Light painting is a unique form of art. The darkness is illuminate by the artist with diverse light sources and light traces are paint into the picture with various light tools. Various techniques are use, such as camera rotation or other movements of the camera during the exposure. The creative possibilities are almost unlimited. All the pictures were taken during one single exposure. Apart from denoising, sharpening, cutting and possibly adjusting the white balance, the pictures are not processed on the computer.
