So many Stars... and some Perseids

Hello friends of the darkness.

Now I managed to capture some Perseids on the memory card, and an infinite number of stars. A few days ago, the conditions were almost optimal. Here on the Darß, light pollution is limited, there is hardly any air pollution because there is no industry far and wide and the fresh sea air blows away almost all particles immediately. The moon had set a few hours earlier. The temperatures were still quite pleasant at night. So at around 10 p.m. I set off for the spot I had previously explored in daylight. A group of trees in a meadow on the Bodden.

Nun ist es mir doch noch gelungen einige Perseiden auf die Speicherkarte zu bannen, und unendlich viele Sterne. Vor einigen Tagen waren die Bedingungen fast optimal. Hier auf dem Darß hält sich die Lichtverschmutzung in Grenzen, es gibt kaum Luftverschmutzung weil es hier weit und breit keine Industrie gibt und die frische Meeresluft fast alle Partikel sofort wegweht. Der Mond war einige Stunden vorher untergangen. Die Temperaturen waren auch nachts noch recht angenehm. Also machte ich mich um ca. 22 Uhr auf dem Weg zu dem Spot, den ich zuvor bei Tageslicht erkundet hatte. Eine Gruppe von Bäumen auf einer Wiese am Bodden.

Actually I wanted to take this picture in one exposure, unfortunately I had forgotten that the camera only exposes for a maximum of 30 minutes in "time" mode. Fortunately, I was standing right next to the camera when the first exposure was finished and was able to press the shutter button a second time. The star trails would be even more impressive with an exposure time of 90 minutes. But I was too impatient for that on this night. If it is cloudless again in the next few nights, I might take another picture with 90 or more minutes of exposure time.

Eigentlich wollte ich dieses Bild in einer Belichtung aufnehmen, leider hatte ich verdrängt, dass die Kamera im Modus "time" nur maximal 30 Minuten belichtet. Glücklicherweise stand ich direkt an der Kamera als die erste Belichtung beendet wurde und konnte sofort ein zweites Mal auf den Auslöser drücken, Die beiden Bilder habe ich dann am Computer zusammen gerechnet. Die Sternenspuren wären bei einer Belichtungszeit von 90 Minuten noch beeindruckender. Dafür war ich aber in dieser Nacht zu ungeduldig. Sollte es in den nächsten Nächten nochmal wolkenlos sein, mache ich vielleicht noch ein Bild mit 90 oder mehr Minuten Belichtungszeit.

Afterwards I took many pictures with open aperture and high ISO in the hope to capture some Perseids. In the picture above you can see two, 1.5 to be exact. 🤣

Im Anschluss machte ich dann viele Aufnahmen mit offener Blende und hohem ISO Wert in der Hoffnung einige Perseiden aufzunehmen. Im Bild oben sieht man zwei, also 1,5 um genau zu sein. 🤣

I photographed the starry sky from different positions. I illuminated the trees and the meadow with the Emisar D4K and the Noctigon DM11, not such an easy exercise in 30 seconds. I was very impressed by the starry sky. I live in the big city of Berlin. You never see so many stars there.

Ich habe den Sternenhimmel aus verschiedenen Positionen fotografiert. Die Bäume und die Wiese habe ich dabei mit der Emisar D4K und der Noctigon DM11 beleuchtet, keine ganz so einfache Übung in 30 Sekunden. Mich hat hat der Sternenhimmel sehr beeindruckt. Ich lebe in der Großstadt Berlin. Da Sieht man nie so viele Sterne.

The trail of light in this picture was painted by a bat while I was shining the torch in this direction. This has happened to me more often, especially on the Baltic coast. I am sure that bats like light painting. 😁

Die Lichtspur in diesem Bild hat eine Fledermaus ins Bild gemalt während ich mit der Taschenlampe in diese Richtung geleuchtet hatte. Das ist mir, gerade an der Ostseeküste schon häufiger passiert. Ich bin mir sicher, dass Fledermäuse Lightpainting gut finden. 😁

The greatest difficulty was to "block out" the lights of the village. I positioned the camera as low as possible so that I could photograph above the lights. Since there were only a handful of streetlights a few hundred metres away and a few illuminated windows of the few houses, it worked quite well. You can see the situation quite well in the pictures I took with the drone.

Die größte Schwierigkeit bestand darin, die Lichter der Ortschaft "auszublenden". Ich positionierte die Kamera möglichst tief damit ich über die Lichter fotografiere. Da es nur eine Handvoll Straßenlaternen in einigen hundert Metern Entfernung und einige beleuchtete Fenster der wenigen Häusern waren, funktionierte das ganz gut. Auf den Bildern, welche ich mit der Drohne aufgenommen habe, sieht man die Situation ganz gut.

Light painting is a unique form of art. The darkness is illuminate by the artist with diverse light sources and light traces are paint into the picture with various light tools. Various techniques are use, such as camera rotation or other movements of the camera during the exposure. The creative possibilities are almost unlimited. All the pictures were taken during one single exposure. Apart from denoising, sharpening, cutting and possibly adjusting the white balance, the pictures are not processed on the computer.
