MELT THE FLAKES
Good morning community.
Here now follows the second part of the report on our trip to the Heilandskirche in Potsdam. Together with @stepko we have spent several hours in the snow. In the meantime, we both looked like snowmen. But how do I always say? Lightpainting is not a pony farm.

Hier folgt nun der zweite Teil des Berichtes über unseren Ausflug zur Heilandskirche in Potsdam. Gemeinsam mit @stepko haben wir mehrere Stunden im Schnee verbracht. Zwischenzeitlich sahen wir beide aus wie Schneemänner. Aber wie sage ich immer? Lightpainting ist kein Ponyhof.

First, I used the Fenix TK30 and light blue color filter to illuminate the top of the bell tower and then shone the light into the sky behind the tower for 20 seconds. Unfortunately, this did not work as desired. The lamp is too weak to win against the quite bright sky. The lights of the city were reflected by the snowflakes. This is also the reason why the background is so "muddy". That's the many snowflakes.
Then I lit the side aisle of the church with the Emisar D4K and the same light blue color filter. I then removed the color filter and lit the rest of the church. Between each step, @stepko kept covering the lens. This wouldn't have been necessary for the light painting here, but this way a few less snowflakes ended up on the front lens of the lens.
Zuerst habe ich mit der Fenix TK30 und hellblauem Farbfilter den oberen Teil des Glockenturmes beleuchtet und dann für 20 Sekunden hinter dem Turm in den Himmel geleuchtet. Leider hat das nicht wie gewünscht funktioniert. Die Lampe ist zu schwach um gegen den recht hellen Himmel zu gewinnen. Die Lichter der Stadt wurden von den Schneeflocken reflektiert. Aus diesem Grund ist auch der Hintergrund so "matschig". Das sind die vielen Schneeflocken.
Im Anschluss hab ich dann den seitlichen Gang der Kirche mit der Emisar D4K und dem selben hellblauen Farbfilter beleuchtet. Ich entfernte dann das Farbfilter und beleuchtete den Rest der Kirche. Zwischen den einzelnen Schritte hat @stepko immer wieder das Objektiv abgedeckt. Für das Lightpainting wäre das hier nicht nötig gewesen, aber so landeten einige Schneeflocken weniger auf der Frontlinse des Objektivs.
The first thing we did was test whether the idea of illuminating the inside of the bell tower with the LEP flashlight would work at all and at what position I would have to stand for it. Here I was standing too far to the right. But basically it worked.
Als Erstes haben wir getestet, ob die Idee, das Innere des Glockenturmes mit der LEP Taschenlampe zu beleuchten überhaupt funktioniert und an welcher Stelle ich dafür stehen muss. Hier stand ich zu weit rechts. Aber grundsätzlich hat das funktioniert.

In the next step I shot the scene without lightpainting to see if it works at all with all the snowflakes. Well, beautiful is different. The scene was also quite bright at f2.8 and ISO 100.
Im nächsten Schritt habe ich dann die Szene ohne Lightpainting aufgenommen um zu sehen, ob das mit den vielen Schneeflocken überhaupt funktioniert. Na ja, schön ist anders. Die Szene war bei f2,8 und ISO 100 auch schon recht hell.

Then we set about the first attempt. Unfortunately, I messed up the illumination of the aisle. It's completely uneven and I lit myself into the picture. As if I had a flashlight in my hand for the first time in my life. 🤣Well, it wasn't quite that easy. There are highly reflective tiles on the outside of the church. Beyond that, the rest of the church is too dark. I had then still illuminated the tree on the left side at the first attempt. In the other attempts I have then omitted this step. The picture does not win thereby, in my opinion.
Dann machten wir uns an den ersten Versuch. Leider habe ich die Ausleuchtung des Ganges versaut. Das ist völlig ungleichmäßig und ich habe mich selbst ins Bild geleuchtet. Als hätte ich das erste Mal in meinem Leben eine Taschenlampe in der Hand. 🤣Na ja, ganz so einfach war das nicht. An der Außenseite der Kirche sind stark reflektierende Fliesen angebracht. Darüber hinaus ist der Rest der Kirche zu dunkel. Ich hatte beim ersten Versuch dann noch den Baum auf der linken Seite beleuchtet. Bei den anderen Versuchen habe ich diesen Schritt dann weggelassen. Das Bild gewinnt dadurch nicht, wie ich finde.
Frozen through and wet, we made our way back. The equipment survived the trip just as unscathed as we did. Despite the adverse conditions, we had fun and took home some cool pictures on the memory card. Since I actually had some other picture ideas in mind, which, however, could not be implemented due to the snowfall, we will probably have to go to the Heilandskirche another time. Durchgefroren und nass machten wir uns auf den Rückweg. Die Ausrüstung hat den Ausflug ebenso unbeschadet überstanden wie wir. Trotz der widrigen Umstände hatten wir Spaß und haben einige coole Bilder auf der Speicherkarte mit nach Hause genommen. Da ich eigentlich einige andere Bildideen im Kopf hatte, welche sich allerdings aufgrund des Schneefalls nicht umsetzen ließen, müssen wir wohl noch ein weiteres Mal zur Heilandskirche. Biste dabei @stepko?

Guten Morgen, schöne Ergebnisse von unserer Nacht im Schneegestöber. Die Ausleuchtung der Kirche mit dem Blau passt sehr gut zur Stimmung in der kalten und schneereichen Nacht.
Bin dabei falls es nochmal zur Heilandskirche gehen sollte. Ohne Schnee und Mond wäre fantastisch. Also nicht morgen oder so. 😇

Seeing light in the darkness it's pure bliss. But when it also creates creates some kind of art, the smile is even bigger! :)
