When I was getting my business visa and work permit as a photographer in Thailand a while ago I got to stay a few nights in Penang. Georgetown is a really interesting, and very colorful place!
Malaysian flag.
All these images are analog, which brings out even more of the nuances. Normally I would not edit these too hard, but this time around I have taken the underlying hues as cues to really bring out as much of the colors as possible.
The red lanterns are famous. If I ever make it back I will do more work at these spots.
Georgetown is mainly old, low rise buildings, with tiny hotels like this one.
Small shops sell all sorts of souvenirs of course.
I have no idea what venue this might be, perhaps a Confusian institution?
I guess the bar is low for just fixing problems like these on your own here hehe...
I normally use my own feet, but if you want to get around in easy, flexible ways then these are available!
The cemetery reminds you about Malaysias colonial past, where also Germans settled.
I bet there is some rowdy partying going on in there at night!
Another temple, there are a lot of these around. Some might even be Chinese medical clinics?
Trade and commerce has been going on here forever, some streets are all about that.
Malaysia is of course a Muslim country.
The tiny streets have lots of house altars like this one, where the shop owner will do the appropriate offerings each day.
I have no idea what this sign says, but it has great colours!
There are lanterns all over, not only the red ones. These were probably for sale too.
That is it for now! It has been an inspiration to revisit these quite random photos, that I did while waiting for my visa to come through, which was an interesting process for sure!
