I See a Red Door

Red Door.jpg

I have to admit that I get a kick out of front doors. Their design in particular makes me appreciate the building to which they are attached. I like those doors (and to a lesser extent windows) that are well designed. You put a nice door in front of me, and I’m transfixed. Their form factors extend beyond functionality and makes a statement about the nature of the residents on the other side. You can’t judge a book by its cover, they say, but let’s face it, it’s fun doing it.

I don’t think we pay attention to door design as much as we used to, at least in North American culture. The important thing is security. There is also appearances. Extravagant front ends are costly, and one would expect that mainly people of means can afford them. So, there's a socio-economic element to front doors, which could potentially invite trouble.

Some places may even have communal rules about door design: You can’t put up a door with a carved dragon when everyone else’s door is a brown rectangle with glass. Though to be fair, I think even our noble ancestors would’ve raised an eyebrow or two at such chicanery. 🐉

I truly hope that as we leave the home planet to colonize other worlds, we pay close attention to door design on spaceships, colonies, biodomes, and secret lairs. It's the proper way to start a new civilization.

No question about it, I’ve been seduced by doors (and windows to a lesser extent). Thank you for peeping in.

Thank you!

Lovely shots @litguru friend 👍

I love that kind of doors, antique, that style and wood... the trees go with them, I love it!

I like how they paid attention so close to aesthetic. The doors were also made by hand by skillful craftsmen who put their own flair to the work. They look very romantic with the lush trees.

I think that's why I liked them so much, very romantic....
