Unbelievable! I lived like Robinson Crusoe for 14 days

I'll tell you one of the most interesting stories in my life. Of course, it happened in the late 90's - the most wonderful years of our lives.

This is what my home looked like

I'll start with the fact that when there was no internet, I loved reading adventure books - Carl May, Ernest Hemingway, Robert Louis Stevenson. I loved their novels and always imagined that I was the main character in them. But Daniel Defoe's greatest character has the strongest impact on me. Yes, Robinson Crusoe came to my mind so much that I dreamed of being like him.

With old clothes and my favorite sneakers, I embarked on the adventure

And one summer, when I was 19, I had the opportunity to make my dream come true. I was Robinson Crusoe. How did it all happen?

Attractive place, isn't it?

In the 90's my family lived in the city of Vidin, Northwestern Bulgaria - an area full of rich nature and great history. My grandfather used to buy an old pavilion, which he took to Ratiaria, a place on the banks of the Danube, dating back to the time of the Roman Empire. There we had a piece of land, where my family grows a vineyard and produces wine..

As a kid, I turned the old pavilion into a bungalow, just like Robinson's hut. You can see in the photos. When I finished school, the first thing I did was put a few things in a bag and "isolate" myself in the hut, away from people and civilization.

I scared the thieves with this sign 😂

There were only a few rusks, potatoes, and some clothes in the bag. Everything else I relied on to get it from nature. And so it happened. I lived alone for 14 days away from everything and everyone. This was my barracks.

I liked to keep it clean and tidy, although I didn't expect guests

In addition to the vineyard, we had a garden with parsley, dill, carrots, onions and other vegetables. The cherries there had blossomed. There were also other fruits. The wonderful almonds were a substitute for meat.

The only thing I was seriously worried about were the snakes. There are many in this area, including venomous ones, and I have a terrible fear of snakes. Fortunately, I didn't see it then.

The makeshift sink was a real joy for me

You may be wondering, where did I get my drinking water from? Well, about 2 km from the hut, which was located on the highest point in Ratiaria, there is a natural spring with beautiful fresh water. I went to bring water in a tube every day.

With my hand on my heart, I admit that this is the sweetest water I have ever drunk

Every morning I got up at 7:00 and went for a walk in the woods. I had fruit for breakfast on the way. Then I lit a fire and made lunch. In the afternoon I liked to rest or do something in the yard.

Next to this pine I built a table and a bench

Okay, I'll admit something. There were gardens a few miles from the well, from which I stole cucumbers and tomatoes 😁 There were irrigation systems in place and they were always fresh.

Walking to these gardens was a pleasure for me

There were a few more houses near my hut, but they are deserted and no one lives in them. They have long been looted by crime gypsies. There are no people in this area and the gypsies have become a real scourge. Our bungalow was also broken into several times and dishes, cables and clothes were stolen. So there was no electricity in my bungalow, I didn't even have a refrigerator, which was awful. But Robinson didn't have a refrigerator either.

Across the river is the Romanian coast

On the other hand, I had ecologically clean food, pure air and a wonderful view - I saw the Danube River and the passing cruise ships and fishing boats. And on the other side, a mile across the river, you can clearly see the Romanian land.

While I was Robinson I had the most beautiful view. This was evident when you came out of the hut and looked to the left

Fishing was also in my plans, but my rods were stolen.

It was only in the evening that I was afraid, because there were fierce sounds of wild animals. Sometimes they came in front of the hut, but I locked it.

Have you seen the movie "The Predator" with Arnold Schwarzenegger? Here nature is the same

So, 14 days passed imperceptibly, after which I returned to the city and began to prepare for the entrance exams. I had a hard time falling asleep for a long time, because I was used to the conditions in the hut.

It's quickly gets used to this place and remains a good memory for a lifetime

Of course, this was a wonderful experiment that I tried with myself. I just had that opportunity. It's no coincidence that I called this thing a barracks. I believe that this is how we learn responsibility, discipline and respect for nature.
If you think so and you liked my story, do not hesitate to follow me. Greetings to all 😊🤙
