J'ai déjà écrit il y a peu de temps sur la présence de baleines à bosse dans les eaux de Boa Vista au Cap-Vert, et j'avais présenté rapidement la raison de la migration, et la façon de reconnaître les individus. Aujourd'hui, toujours sur le même sujet, je vais vous présenter en utilisant des photos, les différentes phase possibles de leur comportement que nous pouvons observer depuis la surface. Tout d'abord, l'inévitable respiration. La baleine est un mammifère et comme tout mammifère après un temps passé en apnée, son premier réflex une fois à l'air libre sera de respirer ! Mais une baleine pèse une trentaine de tonnes, et sa respiration se traduira par une expulsion d'air qui va avoisiner les 4 à 5m de hauteur... Très impresionnant lorsque cela se passe aux alentours du bateau. Le bruit est encore plus impressionnant que la baleine elle-même ! Une autre de ses phases comportemental est le déplacement. Les baleines nagent à une vitesse pouvant avoisiner 3 à 4 noeuds lorsqu'elles sont en déplacement. Leur dos traverse alors la surface à chaque passage. Un moment où nous pouvons prendre consicence de toute sa taille... Et puis lors de sa dernière apparition en surface elle prendra une ultime inspiration avant de sonder de nouveau pour quelques minutes d'apnée. Cette ultime plongeons la poussera à envoyer sa caudale au-dessus de son corps. C'est à ce moment que l'on peut observer ses tache blanches dessinées sur sa nageoire caudale. Une photo de cette partie de son corps servira à l'identifier. Enfin, le saut, le spectacle ultime ! Montrer sa force à la femelle, éduquer son petit, se débarasser des parasites, autant de raison qui poussent les baleines à passer violemment la surface avant de retombre dans un bruit fracassant.
