Who doesn’t like castles? They have been part of our childhood. Many of us have watched some cartoon movie with a castle in it at a certain point. Personally, I like them very much, the older the castle, the greater the fascination. Castles have something hidden and magical about them. There are many stories behind them, some that we might never know of. How many people lived there, how many passed there or had different life stories? One can only fantasise about it, never guessing. There is a certain veil of a mystery, that helps the imagination grow further away.
We read about them or hear legends and stories, but in the end what do we truly preserve in our memories? I guess we preserve our feeling, not the real story or a year or some historical fact. It suffices to say that the sight itself remains the most preserved, not the story about it. Sometimes the facts and stories might be alternated in our own memory. But it doesn’t matter, as long as we feel that playful imagination and mysterious fascination about castles.
Most people feel excited when seeing a medieval castle, wherever it is. This one was in the northern of Italy, in the city of Bolzano. It sits in a valley, hidden between the city, hills and mountains.
Castles remind me of tales, cartoons, princes and princesses, magical creatures, mystical legends, unresolved mysteries and unheard stories. We can never know the story, but it’s nice to let ourselves dream and fantasise about it. After all, it’s a great testimony to what has once existed, a proof of something that’s no more, but can be invented and reinvented any way we want it to be.
