Old Lake Shots Taken In Tampere

I took these almost exactly four years ago during a visit to Tampere.

The lake is Lake Näsijärvi to the north of the city center. You're looking at the lighthouse on a very small rocky island called Siilinkari located about 1 km off the southern shore and the city. This is a view to the north, I think.

A view to the east. This was taken very close to the island. Late winter was cold in 2018. The lake was completely frozen over despite its size (about 1000 km2) and the ice was still strong enough for people and light vehicles.

This is Lake Pyhäjärvi on the southern side of the city center. The sun set to the west-northwest. The esker across the lake is Pyynikinharju, which is part of a chain of eskers running from the northwest to the southeast. The city center is to the east of it and a rapid connecting the lakes that was formed 9000 years ago shortly after the last ice age runs through it. Tampere became an industrial city because of the power of the rapid some 150 years ago. The ice is much weaker here because of the mouth of the rapid is close to this location. The lake is hardly ever frozen over here. Only during extended cold spells in the middle of winter does one see it frozen over.
