Heute möchte ich über eine von uns gern besuchte Location schreiben. Normalerweise mache ich hier meine Lightpaintings, aber vor einiger Zeit bat uns ein Freund, Fotos für seine Website zu machen, da er in der Malzfabrik Fototouren anbietet. So kam es, dass ich ein paar schöne Fotos bei Tageslicht machte.
Today I would like to write about a location, we like to visit. I usually do my light paintings here, but some time ago a friend asked us to take photos for his website, were he offers photo tours at the Malzfabrik. So it happened that I took some nice photos in daylight.
Die Malzfabrik ist heute ein Komplex mit 83 Unternehmen und rund 350 Mitarbeitern und Mitarbeiterinnen. Es gibt hier Künstlerateliers, Studios, Manufakturen, Handwerksbetriebe, Stadtfarmen, Start-ups und vieles mehr. Den Betreibern der Malzfabrik ist Nachhaltigkeit sehr wichtig. So wir das Areal mit Naturstrom versorgt, es gibt unter anderem Naturgärten, Bienen, ein Regenwassermanagement und Wasserbecken.
The old malthouse is now a complex with 83 businesses and around 350 employees. There are artist studios, manufactories, handicraft businesses, urban farms, start-ups and much more. Sustainability is very important to the operators of the Malzfabrik. The area is supplied with natural electricity, there are natural gardens, bees, a rainwater management system and water basins, among other things.
1914 beschloss die Berliner Schultheis Brauerei den Bau einer modernen Mälzerei., diese wurde 1921 eröffnet. Erst 1926 wurde hier das Braumalz zum Bierbrauen hergestellt. Im Zweiten Wltkrieg wurde die Mälzerei teilweise zerstört und nach dessen Beendigung wurden viele Maschinen dort von den sowjetischen Aliierten abgebaut. 1950 wurde dann die Mälzerei wieder in Betrieb genommen. Da die Schultheis - Brauereien über Gesamtberlin verteilt waren, gingen nach dem zweiten Weltkrieg Teile davon in DDR - Besitz über, andere Teile lagen auf dem Gebiet von Westberlin. Wie die Stadt war auch die Brauerei geteilt.
In 1914, the Berlin Schultheis Brewery decided to build a modern malt house, which was opened in 1921. Not until 1926 the malt for brewing beer was produced here. During the Second World War, the malting plant was partially destroyed and after the end of the war, many machines were dismantled by the Soviet Allies. The malthouse was put back into operation in 1950. Since the Schultheis breweries were spread all over Berlin, after the Second World War parts of them became the property of the GDR , while other parts were located in West Berlin. Like the city, the brewery was also divided.
1958 wurde die Kastenmälzerei gebaut, hinzu kamen in den 60er Jahren Silos. 1996 wurde die Malzproduktion hier eingestellt, nachdem die Fabrik 1995 unter Denkmalschutz gestellt wurde. 2005 wurde das Gelände an Frank Sippel und dessen Finanzgesellschaft Real Future AG verkauft und wird seitdem instandgesetzt und nachhaltig genutzt. 2017 feierte die Malzfabrik 100jähriges Bestehen.
In 1958, a box malting plant was built, and silos were added in the 1960s. In 1996, malt production was stopped here. The factory was listed in monument protection in 1995. In 2005 the area was sold to Frank Sippel and his finance company Real Future AG and the factory has been restored and put to sustainable use. In 2017, the malt factory celebrated its 100th anniversary.

Zum Schluss gibt es noch ein Lightpainting, welches in eben dieser Mälzerei entstanden ist. Es zeigt eine Szene aus der Psychiatrie, die Türen mit den kleinen Fenstern und das schäbige Look hatten mich dazu inspiriert. Letztendlich wurde daraus eine ganze Bilderserie. Die Ausleuchtung erfolge durch Scheinwerfer und RGB - Lampen. Die Models habe ich eingescannt. Ich freue mich wie immer über Kommentare, Hinweise und Kritik.
Finally, I want to show you a light painting that was created in this malt house. It shows a scene from a psychiatric ward, the doors with the small windows and the shabby look had inspired me to do it. In the end, it became a whole series of pictures. The lighting was done with spotlights and RGB torches. I have scanned the models. As always, I am happy about comments, hints and criticism.
