An Ancient National Treasure From 1772

Welcome to the third episode of our Nostalgic series. Some of you may have that soft spot for vintage photos and if you do, you will enjoy this episode. Last time I shared with you nostalgia from St. Mary Magdalene Church. Let's visit another church that we visited years ago. Come with me and let's turn back the clock on Daraga Church.

Nostalgic Dreams

A series to try and replicate old photos from the past. A reimagining of some of my previous and future works, artificially turning back the clock and relive days gone by.

To make the timeline more convincing the theme should not include modern-day items or structures.
Erasing modern-day traces to give a more convincing look from the past.

I took these photos almost three years ago when we visited the Bicol region in the Philippines. A white Baroque-style church made with volcanic rocks and have stood the test of time throughout the centuries. This is one of my favorite churches and I loved the scarred façade and carvings on its walls.

The original photos can be found here from my old watersnake101 account which does not have access to anymore. Here you would find the colored photos and more information about the church.

As I further explore the aging of photos, I added something extra today. I placed a white border on the photos. I think it looks a bit better than my previous works. What do you think? Should we continue adding some borders? I'm planning to add tears on the sides of the photo maybe in the next episodes. Let's see how my work evolves in the future.

In the photo below one of the challenges is removing a van on the side of the church. I am not a photoshop wizard but I tried my best to cover up the section where the van used to be. I have also added the original photo to have a comparison as this photo was not included in the original post.

This photo I think that I might have overdone the aging of the photo. It somehow doesn't feel right anymore and somehow looks like a photo in an old newspaper.

I had to do a lot of work on this one removing all the wall fans and fluorescent lights attached to the walls. Now it feels more authentic like being inside a 17th-century church. You could compare the photos from the original post to see where the fans were attached.

Lots of stains on this photo but I should have made it black and white instead with some scratches.

The hanging lamp should have been removed as the Philippines did not have electricity yet until its introduction in the late 1800s. As I write this content the more flaws I am seeing. Let's just leave it at that and just improve my work next time. If you see any modern items that I missed please let me know.

That ends our third episode today and I hope you enjoyed the work I did on these photos. What do you think? Please let me know in the comments. Would you like to live in the past or just even look thru a window of the days gone by?

Hope to see you again soon and have a beautiful evening.

You have gotten really good at this antique technique. It goes very well with the structures. Great photography and awesome job!

@castleberry hey thanks a bit tedious to work on but I'm enjoying it. This vintage look is beginning to eat me up 😂. Can't stop thinking of ways to improve it. So much plans and I haven't got to the 70s era look yet.
