Remembering My Urban Photographs 📸

Let's talk about urban photography and the freedom that this format gives you when you venture into the chaotic streets, where anything can happen. From people crossing the scene, to other people telling you to go somewhere else to take pictures.

What does happen is that the light coming from the sun varies radically and the parameters you used in manual mode on your camera must be corrected at every moment.

It is normal that the photos are dark or somewhat burned, although you did the right thing with the exposure time, the iso and the aperture of the diaphragm.

.

In particular, I think that's kind of an interesting challenge, in certain instances you get frustrated by the variation of results because of how the light changes every moment, but it also generates a sense of triumph when you prevail in the face of that adversity.

The models are almost never distracted by these climatic elements. What does divert their attention are compliments, eyes watching them, the city traffic itself or if a security guard comes out of nowhere to say they can't take pictures because they're in a private area.

I took these photos in my beginnings as a photographer. I took them on two different occasions and having as location the city where I live which is called San Antonio de Los Altos, Miranda state, in Venezuela.

Many years have passed since I did them and this morning, inspecting those folders where I have some surviving images of my exploits, I looked at them again and they gave me nostalgia, but also a satisfaction of success for what I achieved.

Another touch that highlights this type of photography is the editing and posing. In this case I gave it a black and white edition and also I was varying the tonality of that grayscale so that they had a violet or green touch.

Normally, the editions are usually left in color and then everyone plays with vivid colors. In my case, I always take the opposite of the common and this was one of my rebelliousness to differentiate myself.

Of all these images, I only used the flash in one and the result was very good because of the backlight. There are many controversies about the use of flash in urban photography, there are those who criticize the fact that this light takes away the naturalness of the chaos of the streets.

Personally, I'm a fan of flash, mainly because it increases the precision of the focus and improves the texture of the skins. The downside is that when you don't have diffusers, assistants or patience, it makes you delay every photo, because that extreme variation of the parameters I told you about at the beginning, aggravates much more the results of the photo, both to turn out overexposed or underexposed.

I quite enjoy the look of this kind of photos, it's a free, chaotic format, where you can afford to break many rules and enjoy not complying with them creatively.

I hope you like this selection. Estaré atento a responder a sus inquietudes y comentarios.
