Midsummer Sunset on Tatoinne!

in Photography Lovers3 years ago (edited)

Okay so I decided to run out and photograph the sunset at the end of midsummers day here in England on the 21st day of June 2022.

Simple enough you would expect but it turned into something rather bizarre and special. In the following sequence of photos we get to see a double sun?

Probably something to do with it being a smartphone camera that produced these weird effects?

Midsummer Sunset 1

The sunset below looks fairly normal and good enough from a 5 year old smartphone camera.

Midsummer Sunset 2

Things are getting a bit weird in the photo below. Is it a UFO? 👽👽🥶🥶👀

I carried on taking photos as the sun sank down in the west and suddenly we are on Tatoinne watching a double sunset! 🤯🤯😂👍

For those of you that have no idea what Tatoinne is. It is a fictional planet in the Star Wars Film's Universe where the lead character Luke Skywalker lives.

It has a double sun at the centre of it's solar system hence the double sunset.

Meanwhile back here on Earth here's my final sunset photo on this beautiful midsummers day.

Happy Midsummers day to all you folk in the northern hemisphere.

Sometimes the best camera is the one you have with you at the time.

It's better than having all the gear and no idea. 😂😂🎬🎥📽📷👍👍

Sort:

It's like the sun split in two :D I miss sunset watching. I miss the colors of sunset. I can't even witness sunrise these days because of the weather we are having here.

The sun did seem to split in two. It was weird to see it. The photo didn't show it as clearly as the naked eye but you get the idea.
Malaysia is in winter now so not much sunshine? It will soon come back to you 😊👍

It's the rainy season here in the Philippines so yeah, not that much sunshine.

Oh yeah I remembered exactly what Tatooine was! In fact I did my first Tatooine post way back in 2018 lol.
Great captures, Michael and of course I firmly believe the best camera is the one you have with you at the time!

Hi Paul, how weird is that. We both had the same lens aberration?
My photos were all taken within minutes of each other with my old smartphone.
Just curious. Did you shoot your photo with a proper camera or a smartphone?

The best camera you have is the one you have in your hands. Somehow, it is always just the right one.

Shubie Gorge, Chott el Jerid, Matmata, Djerba, and other areas in the North African country are the real-world stand-ins for the planet Tatooine where we were first introduced to Luke Skywalker in "A New Hope." The name of the fictional planet was borrowed from a real Tunisian town called Tataouine

I always wondered where that was.

I think some of the outdoor shots come out better (or more vivid) with the cell phone. Now, with the new phones, even more so. I like the nearly split image of #3. It was a big deal growing up, or perhaps that was just my dad. We made a real party of it. :)

I've been there in person with the wife back in the 90's. We rode a Camel and visited the various film locations in the rocky Sahara of Tunisia. It was a very interesting trip.

We met some Berber trogladites who still live in the caves there.

I have old school photos of the trip buried away in storage boxes. 🤯👍

How cool is that!!!! You should have written that in your post! :) I am in the process of going through all of my old school photo boxes. I am putting them in piles for my kids and digitizing many of them from travels.

What a job!

We did that a while back. It's surprising how many terrible out of focus or badly composed photos we had. 📷😂👍🏼

Those pics could get some of the conspiracy nuts excited :) I didn't stay out to see the sun set, but I was outside fairly late and it was really bright. Need to make the most of the good weather we get.

Happy solstice.

!PIZZA

Happy Solstice to you Steve. I agree we have to make the most of these sunny days. Vitamin D top up lol. 😊📷👍

What 5 year old smart phone are you using? I can't get anything half decent with my one year old Samsung!!

It's a Galaxy J4. Not the greatest thing in the world but it's okay for when interesting events happen on the spur of the moment.

My vote goes to Midsummer sunset 1. It's a gorgeous sunset. I guess people don't make such a big fuss about the summer solitice. 😊

I think sunset 1 is the best as well.📷👍

I guess people don't make such a big fuss about the summer [solstice]. 😊

I don't know but paganism seems to be making a comeback?

Maybe the summer solstice has lost its meaning these days because we have food on demand 24/7/365?
