Hey everyone who loves photography! I'm still on the hunt for something beautiful to photograph this afternoon. I found a Psilocybe hispanica mushroom! This little guy grows under the taro tree behind my house. It grows in pairs, which makes me super excited to get snap some pics. Mushrooms are round and a little white and fluffy, like snow.
Psilocybe hispanica is a species of mushroom in the Hymenogastraceae family. It is a small, brown coloured mushroom with a conical to convex mushroom hood that is 10 mm (0.4 in) in diameter, 0.5-1 mm (0.02-0.04 in) thick, and 16-25 mm (0.6-1.0 in) long. In 2000, it was reported as a new species of mushroom. The mushroom is known to originate from the Pyrenees mountains of southwestern France and northern Spain where it grows in horse dung in meadows at elevations of 1,700-2,300 m (5,600-7,500 ft). Psilocybe hispanica contains the psychoactive compound psilocybin. It may have been used in ancient religious rituals after the discovery of its image on the 6,000-year-old Selva Pascuala rock art-the oldest evidence of its use in ancient religious rituals in prehistoric Europe.. This little mushroom only lives for a couple of days in a cool, moist spot, so it's pretty rare. Usually, it'll last just one day before it starts to go bad. But it sure does look nice!
Thanks for checking out my post and photos.
