Yesterday I wrote a little post on the first drone photographs I ever took. I mentioned the lack of confidence I had with the drone and how it impacted the ways I took photographs with it. Often terrified of really letting the drone fly off and gain height out of fear of losing it and thus the money spent on it. Though two years later I've really gained some confidence with it. I felt like getting out today with a break in the snowy weather; the air was really still and just perfect for flying the drone. Though the sunlight had already mostly left at this point.
One thing I really want to do now I have more confidence with the drone is fly it up higher. To get much higher perspectives of various environments that you just can't really get without the drone. Sometimes I fly what I feel is relatively high up, but rarely enough to really see the horizon and scale of the land around. Of course there are many rules and regulations regarding this sort of flying, so finding the right enviornments that support it will be the first challenge.
Flying it high up is insanely fun though, especially when the air is still and the battery life can be put to the maximum. This short flight I did was around the countryside as the sun was setting. I got out into the fields a little too late to capture the colours of the sunset, and just caught enough of the remaining light to capture the photographs. A few minutes later and I wouldn't have had enough light for either flying or getting any good images.
Spring is around the corner and the air should become more still as the nicer, warmer weather rolls in. I'm really excited this year to make more creative videos with the drone; something I felt a bit less encouraged to do over autumn and winter with less colour and light, as well as lots of rain to make photography a bit more challenging beyond just capturing sunsets. Those get a bit boring after a while and my creative side really craves some fun!

Your fear is valid. I could only imagine the anxiousness of losing an expensive item. I am glad you have overcome what seems to restrict you though. The image came out well. I initially thought this was taken before sunrise, but I was mistaken. The images make me wonder what it is like to see the world from above. I hope we could see more of this kind of photograph from you.
Those are some dizzying heights XD
Though the gaining height thing did remind me of an incident when my youngest was quite young, we were at our gym and he asked if he could go to the field next door to fly his (very cheap from Target or KMart or somewhere like that) drone. I said sure but make sure to keep away from the road and buildings and to keep it low so it doesn't get blown away (it was a very small and very light plastic affair).
Some time later I go out to check on him and remind him to finish up and come back in as it will be getting dark soon and find him hysterically screaming in the middle of the field because he had flown the drone too high, the wind had got it and blown it out of the laughably short range of the controller into the bush and he couldn't get it to come back.
Cue me tromping through the bushland with the controller trying to communicate with the drone and also not accidentally bother snakes for nearly an hour before giving up because the sun went down.
Least yours won't blow away that easily XD
