I don't remember ever dreaming about horses. I'm not saying it hasn't happened, I just didn't pay attention to dreams like I do today. So last night horses pulling buggies ran up to me, stood on their hind legs and put their heads up for me to pet them. I think they were sort of bowing to me. I heard someone say that their behaviour was logical because I was an empress. I was very impressed by this dream... deep down I had a certain fear that they would want to bite me, and because it was so intense, I ran to where they couldn't see me. Why would I want to run away from something so beautiful? This happened twice in the same dream.
I write in my blog which is my diary of life, and I accompany these thoughts with the photos I took very recently, because I went for a walk in my neighbourhood at about 6 pm. It would be ten to six, and after spending a few minutes in the vegetable patch that my neighbour has next to her house, chatting with her about how healthy everything looked, I set out to take some photos... of whatever came up. The sun was already low, ready to go to sleep and the lights in the sky are always a great sight, the contours of things when you point directly at those lights, poetry for my soul to begin to sing... silently, in verse form, perhaps.
While I was thinking a bit about the horses' dream and other scenes that I won't tell for the moment... I noticed that there were strange people hanging around my block, two men who bent down in a rubbish dump to pick up a bottle. Then they washed it down a drain at the corner of my house and stood there talking for a while. I was trying to photograph a American redstart (Candelito) in a tree and one of them asked me if I knew anything about photography. I told him I didn't know much... that I was practising.
This dog was also keeping an eye on what was going on in the street.
They passed by me when they finished their business and walked away. So did I and that's when I saw that from a neighbour's driveway, I could see the sunset. Not so from the street I was walking down because the trees and bushes on that side of the street get in the way.
It looks like the sun is on a tightrope... I took several photos, but I'll share just these two.
The walk was not long, nor was it a race against the fading light in the sky. It was one of those introspective ones, interrupted at times by the conversation of a neighbour. For example, one of them invited me to watch a bird show tomorrow at about 4pm at his house, when his wife puts a pot of leftover rice in the backyard. He says he had long wanted to see me to notify me that the birds already start coming at that time, waiting for the food.
Ok, I said, I'll be here to see the show and we heard a dramatic scream coming from the trees in the house across the street. What a laugh... 🤣 it was the peacock. He says it sleeps there in the mamey tree every night.
This friend was also aware of what was going on in the street
And there was another dog who was in the street and he's a bit defiant because he barks and comes up to you quickly to sniff... this one always barks at me when he sees me with the camera and I tell him: hey, take it easy, you're scaring the birds away... and watch out for my legs. And he takes me for crazy and keeps barking.
So many different cloud scenes made me look at the sky again.
Today I decided to keep these cables and poles in the photos. While shooting it was as if I was placing pieces of a puzzle in my mind... mmmm.... this gave me an idea.
It was time to go home. How good it feels when I arrive and check the memory card... I relive everything again. Every step, every movement, every thought from beginning to end.
Today has been a quiet day, I went for more groceries, talked to my mother and sister, played a little with my Spanish deck of cards after lunch, took a nap... and I have also received some very sad news: my neighbour who brings me bread and groceries from the bodega, those that the government gives rationalised and that hardly arrive anymore, thinks that someone poisoned his dog Blanquita.
My next door neighbour has just phoned me to tell me this and that she fears for Peter, her dog who sleeps in the yard. She thinks that there are thieves in the neighbourhood, who could be responsible for Blanquita's poisoning, because two or three nights ago they tried to rob a house near here. I told her to take precautionary measures and not to leave Peter outside alone these days.
I took this picture just when he brought me the bread today.... he didn't tell me anything about what had happened to his dog. Blanquita always greeted me on the corner of my house when I was walking or cycling back from somewhere, and even in the evenings she would visit me because I used to give her something to eat.
Maybe she is there running around and wagging her tail happily at the edge of the moon.
