Reach for the Stars | HiveBloPoMo Day 28

April 28 of HiveBloPoMo and the prompt is - International Astronomy Day

At least it is on HiveBloPoMo because this year it is actually May 7th. Hey, @traciyork where did you find that it is today? 😁

Anyways, I am going to keep it short again today because - well, I know I'm repeating myself but it is 8:15 pm, dinner still has to be made and eaten, and yeah... Also, not feeling that well. Since Monday my left eye has been bothering me. I think it is GPC, I had it previously and it feels the same. If it doesn't get better within a day or two I'll have to go and see my ophthalmologist - ugh.

So, astronomy - I don't think I've talked much about it here on this blog but I love, love, looooove watching the stars, and letting my mind wander and wonder. You will see their shape regularly appear in my paintings.

And every fall when we go on vacation on the Outer Banks it is THE opportunity to do just that. Most of the time evenings and nights are fairly warm and there is hardly any light pollution i.e. the stars are extremely bright. Many times I have taken pictures of the moon or full moon. Here is a couple of them, one was taken on Bonaire but the others are from OBX. And, yes, the moon was THAT orange - it was amazing!!

This one here is a cropped shot - still not bad though...

On my Twitter I am re-tweeting the daily picture of NASA (APOD) through IFTTT and let me tell you there are some awesome photos of galaxies and phenomena far away. The other day they tweeted this photo taken by Prasun Agrawal - please check out his Instagram or website, you will not be disappointed. Just look at this photo - how amazing is it that all these planets are lining up like this?

But Astronomy Day is about planetariums and observatories opening their doors to the public and having events. I wished I was in Cali and could visit the famous Griffith Observatory - one day it will happen. I will be looking through a b.a. telescope and see Mr. Spock - kidding! Of course, I am but seriously it is on my bucket list. Planetariums are great but an observatory is the real deal.

And wthat's it, it is now 8:50 pm - dinner still needs to be finished and - I hope you'll have a fabulous rest of your day!

Cheers,
(Ocean)Bee

Hey @oceanbee! Love, love, LOVE your moon shots! Isn't it amazing when La Luna is glowing amber like that? And sorry to hear about your eye - I hope it clears up for you soon.

Oh, I got the info about today being International Astronomy Day from the Holiday Insights page. Interesting & cool that there's another day in May too!

Hope you had an awesome dinner & an excellent rest of your evening.

Thank you so much @traciyork. The moon is something magical, right? I appreciate you taking the time to comment here and also to put everything HiveBloPoMo together. I have a feeling that my recap post sounded way more negative than I intended - the German in me 😏 - because I did have a great time and met a few peeps here which is awesome!

My eye has gotten a lot better - thank you! Now it's just regular allergies which is a big relief.

These are some really cool shots! Great job and thanks for sharing.

Thank you so much, really appreciate you and the community!

NASA has some of the most interesting content. I'm also a big fan. Their What's Up NASA? monthly videos and blog posts are quite informative. Great for knowing what nights are great for watching various stars, comets, meteors and planets.

I will have to check out What's Up NASA soon.
