Welcome to the next episode of photo-series dedicated to hiking adventures. This time I will take you for a three day long trek in the Żywiec Beskids - a mountain range in southern Poland (the second highest mountains of this country). How was it? Check it out. Here comes the third day😉
In case you missed previous days, you can catch up: day one, day two.
Third day on a trek. It is midnight now. The sky is lacking any clouds, so I can observe stars beneath the mountain Mała Rycerzowa (1207m) until I fall asleep. This constellation is my favorite.
4 am. When on trek, being an early bird is a must be as you may be rewarded with this view - High Tatras mountains, with some summits up to 2.7km high.
Alright, what do we have here on the horizon? On the left you can find Pilsko (1557m; there I spent the night before last), Babia Góra (1725m), followed by Orava Beskids. On the right horizon, Tatra mountains are visible too.
The sun is about to rise in a bit.
Almost there! The sun illuminates Babia Góra only. Love it!
There it is! The sun just rises above my mountain Pilsko. If I were there today, I bet I would have had better views than the milk yesterday😆 That is the magic of mountains, they lure you to coming next time.
Okay, time to have a doze still.
Two hours later. Good morning sunshine!
What a high-visibility today. Those spiky mountains on the left horizon are High Tatras while this day, even Low Tatras (the faded ones) are recognizable. Malá Fatra on the right, for sure.
I will have some breakfast (Czech traditional liver pâté) at 7 am, and I am ready to go!
Chalet Rycerzowa down there. High/Low Tatras in the background.
A hamlet under the mountain Bendoszka Wielka (1144m). There is a tall cross on that mountain (also visible in this shot), you can check it out in my past post here.
Now the funny story. It's a quite hot June day, so water is vital, right? Unfortunately, there is no any water on the mountain ridge, except for this tiny water source of questionable quality. It takes me nearly 10 minutes to refill this bottle with water full of dirt. Still I am happy I have it😆
Subsequently, I turn around and it occurs to me that I could avoid going along the mountain ridge. No water streams on the ridge anyway. Instead, I could climb down and search for water in the valley. This also means I will avoid going to the mountain Wielka Racza (1236m) on the opposite side😭
Ten o'clock, I am feasting my eyes on Krivánská Malá Fatra.
Zooming in on Krivánská Malá Fatra.
Finally, after rough descent, I am in the valley where I refill my water supplies with fresh and clean water, and brush my teeth. This buddy welcomes me in his or her village.
High noon, the sun beats down like in hell! The mountain range on the opposite side - I was there 2 hours ago?!😂
View from the mountain Wielki Przysłop (1044m). Don't have much time right now as need to catch a train home. Still 10km to go.
On the Kikula mountain (1087m). The mountain Wielka Racza in the foreground, Krivánská Malá Fatra on the left.
Zooming in on Lúčanská Malá Fatra on the horizon which I walked in this post.
Meadows in the summer, ski slopes in the winter above the Slovak village Skalité. My train leaves from the Polish town next to it, Zwardoń.
I have extra time for quick shopping😻
Really not bad!
Shoemaker of my hiking boots guarantees 100% blister-free experience😏
Finally, on board a train in one piece!
Here is ~itinerary of the day.
⇅
Good exercise today, ~30 klicks, ~40k steps.
Overall rough statistics for all three days combined: ~90km, ~120k steps (data by smartwatch rounded down).
