Some people count sheep to fall asleep, we count them when we wake up.
The night can be a long time. Many nocturnal predators prowl through the darkness looking for prey once the sun sets. That's one good reason to check on the flocks every morning. This morning, I checked on our ewes, and sun was just rising, which created a great photo opportunity. These are not all of our sheep featured here, but a good handful. Enjoy the photos!
MORNING SHEEP PHOTOS
How do these earn their keep on the farm ? Just curious.
Here's a short list off the top of my head:
1)they mow the lawn/clear underbrush
2)they fertilize
3)they provide wool
4)they provide more sheep
5)we sell some
6)we eat some
7)we get skulls off ones we eat (we can sell them)
8)we get hides off the ones we eat (we can sell them)
Thank you so much for answering. Just stating to get into the homestead / self sustaining lifestyle (studying about it before we jump in) and there is so much to learn.
No problem. Research is a great idea!!!
My brother counts his and his ducks every morning. Foxes are a problem with the ducks and chickens. Good to see you still posting. I know life has gotten busy for you!
Hope all is well for you and yours!
I count every morning as well. I have less predators here due to my location but cougars do roam.
