Landscapes and nature...

...as in birds at a dam, and some other views.

Since the severe wildfires at our nature reserve, we have only visited afterwards a few times in the past, and so we decided to go and have another look now. Sadly, we found no sign of the protea bushes and I suppose it will take another few years for them to grow again. We did see that a lot of work has been done there, that I will show you in another post, but now I only want to show you what I have in here.
Let's have a look.

They have fixed the parking very well, and a bonus is should another fire arrive, the parking lane will act as a firebreak. Very clever.

As you can see, the greenery is abundant around the mountain and although we hear some birds, we could not see them.

Just a shot of the mountain's reflection in the dam, but I also found something else in the dam.

Lovely reflections of the Cape Cormorant (Phalacrocorax capensis), water flowers, and reed grass.

Here is another landscape of the mountain range on the other side of the dam.

Another view closer to the Steenbras dam of the same mountain range.

What we like about these walks, is the bird song, and before the wildfire destroyed most of the fauna, there were many more birds here.
I think that this happy little one is an African Pipit (Anthus cinnamomeus).

It let rip with 3-5 note pli-pli-pli-calls.

Another thing that I wonder about is the absence of the snapper turtles, as we have not seen even one since the fire. Maybe the dam turned into a cooking pot, as I doubt that they have survived. I so hope that I am wrong and that I will still see one or two of them again one day. The next post will show you how they have restored the wooden walkway around the dam, as most of it was destroyed by the fire. So, they replaced it with a very good system that we walked on all around the dam. Until then, please enjoy some tranquility as you look at the pictures.

I hope you enjoyed the pictures and the story.
