Pieniny National Park is an interesting part of Slovakia. It is literally a little corner - hidden from visitors behind the High Tatras, where most tourists are heading. So you could say that this destination is often overlooked. I think unfairly so.
Pieniny is mainly visited by Polish tourists because it is much more accessible from the Polish side. Most visitors from the south, from the Slovak side, end up in the High Tatras, and many have no idea that you only have to drive twenty kilometres further to discover a relatively little-visited treasure.
The ideal time to visit the Pieniny is autumn. It is not as hot as in summer, so wandering along the mountain paths is much more pleasant. But most importantly: because the hills are covered mainly with mixed and leafy forests, the Pieniny are beautifully colourful in autumn.
Most of the hiking trails are located on the Polish side of the Pieniny and are not very demanding. The highest mountain - Trzy Korony - is less than a thousand metres high. Yet you can enjoy not only the spectacular rock cliffs, but also the deep canyons and meanders of the Dunajec River.
Pieniny National Park is not very big. You only need about three to four days to walk most of the main hiking trails. But even with a much longer stay, you won't get bored - there's still plenty to walk and discover.

Pieninský národní park není příliš velký. Na to, abyste prošli většinu hlavních turistických tras, vám stačí nějaké tři - čtyři dny. Ale i při mnohem delším pobytu se nebudete nudit - pořád bude kam chodit a co objevovat.
