A nice day in a Dutch city "Den Bosch ('s-Hertogenbosch)", Netherlands

Den Bosch. When Martina (@delishtreats) said that she was in the Netherlands for a week, we made a plan to have a meet-up once again. The first time I met her was at Hivefest in Amsterdam, 2022. Later I met her several times including Hivebeecon. She and her husband once or twice in a year come to the Netherlands and whenever she does, we try to have a good time together if we both have time. So, during the Holiday season when she came to the Netherlands, we decided to meet again. This time our location is in a beautiful city in the Netherlands called

The city that is called "the Forest of the Duke" is the fourth largest city in the Netherlands, the capital of North Brabant. North Brabant is a province located south of the Netherlands and a little bit far away from my city. From my city to s-Hertogenbosch ( another name for Den Bosch) it takes 1 hour 45 minutes minimum by train. I was not familiar with this city, I heard the name of the city but never thought to visit the city until Martina invited me there.

My day started early that day because I had to leave home early so that we could have lunch together and have time to explore the city. Martina and her husband are quite familiar with the city because her husband Stefan grew up in Den Bosch. I and Blind-Spot, together we visited Matina and Stefan. We were a little bit late because of the train schedule but fortunately, we reached 's-Hertogenbosch station before lunch. Matina and Stefan were already waiting for us at station Starbucks.

People called Den Bosch a Burgundian (German tribe), a hospitable city because, on every corner of the city, culinary restaurants or cozy cafes can be found. When I left the station, I was surprised at how beautiful the city was. The city has a rich history and architecture, stunning monuments here and there, museums, and Saint John's Cathedral. Before exploring the city, we decided to have our lunch.

We spent quite a long time in the restaurant because we had a lot to talk about besides it was raining outside heavily. I was having fever so I couldn't go outside easily. It's true that in Den Bosch, there are a few unique boutique cafes and nice restaurants here and there.

St. John's Cathedral

After our lunch, we went to Market Square to see the gothic Catholic church of St. John of 's-Hertogenbosch, North Brabant. The church reminded me of the Cologne Cathedral in Germany that I recently visited and at first glance, it looked so similar. The exterior of the church expresses the richly decorated Gothic-style architecture, the construction started around 1340. Construction of the church finished around 1525 source. I am still learning about Gothic style and architecture and to be honest, I am not very familiar with the design of churches.

We didn't spend much time inside the church. Some curious went to the rooftop to see the unique view and exterior of the church. I have a plan that I will visit this church again just to see the details of the exterior.

Holy spots like this one always bring peace of mind. It was quiet inside the church even though many people were there. Pindrop silence and atmosphere actually help to connect to the god I believe. The darkness and calmness were giving me comfort, a peace I was feeling inside even though I am not a church person.

This is the largest catholic cathedral in the Netherlands, its late Gothic style admiringly decorative exterior provides a stunning picture of the city.

Known as the most oldest and important church in the city, this church is a work of art including a beautifully carved wooden choir, massive stonework with sculptures, stained glass windows, and a 16th-century pulpit. Visitors can take guided tours to admire the astounding artworks. source

After visiting the church, we walked around a little bit and went to see the market square and some historical buildings from the outside. The city has some interesting old architectural buildings with history. One of the oldest brick buildings in the Netherlands is located in the center of Den Bosch "De Moriaan". It's a tourist information center now and Martina was showing the building. I forgot to take a picture of the building like always.

I take a lot of photos of the buildings but often forget to take important photos with significant meaning. Later when I started writing the post, I recall that I forgot to take photos.

Stefan told me that the city developed a lot lately, it was a very quiet city before but now business is booming there investors are coming and the city is flourishing.

I couldn't see everything properly because of my sickness but I really had a good time with Martina and Stefan. This city is actually nice and different from other Dutch cities and I am sure summer is the best time to explore this city properly because there is a lot to see in Den Bosch.

Martina and Stefan are such a lovely and active couple

Absolutely and I would say hanging out with them is always fun and enjoyable. We couldn't see the city properly because of the cold rain but hopefully, again we will manage time to meet each other again. I heard Prague is so nice and a good place to learn the history...

Thank you so much for the support and have a great weekend...

The images that you share with us of the city are really beautiful, and the religious temple has that special beauty of peace and meditation.

Very good eye for images, thanks for sharing them.

the religious temple has that special beauty of peace and meditation.

Yes, and whoever goes there, will feel the peace and silence, it's a very different feeling. When I was there, I felt like I was in different world. Thank you for appreciating the photos.

I hope you are doing well... Happy Saturday...

This is so lovely and beautiful. I love the look of the cathedral it's amazing 😍

I will try to visit the cathedral again during summer if it is possible because you can go to one of the roof tops of this cathedral to see the details of the exterior. Thanks for taking time to read my post, have a good weekend...

You are welcome. I hope you get your details when you get there. Enjoy your weekend also.

The cathedral is fantastic!

Yes, it is, a historical landmark that represents the city...

Thanks for sharing the photos and experience.

The sacred architecture is very impressive, it reminds me of an old author who said that the cathedrals of ancient times were built with a peculiar devotion. Well, they could be considered 'prayers in stone', a form of religious worship in which the created work is consecrated as if it were a religious prayer.

I had no idea about it, very interesting and peculiar philosophy... I am not very educated when it comes to the cathedral even don't know many parts of the cathedral. The most interesting fact for me is when I see these cathedrals, I go back to the time and always relate the differences between the form and shape of devotion... Always so much to learn. It's been a while since we last communicated, good to see you again.

I hope you are well and have a good weekend...

Thanks for the good wishes.

Due to certain personal issues, I became interested years ago in issues of symbology and architecture. I am not a great expert, but I remember what I read in some old books.

I think the author of the Cathedrals as prayers was something I read in a book by Fulcanelli.

Thank you for the town sightseeing tour. And yes it's always nice to meet other people from high in person. Who knows, maybe one day

I hope one day we will meet somewhere in this world; it's always nice to spend time with people you know and explore the city together. Martina and Stefan are one of the best companions when it comes to exploring cities...

I hope you are doing well dear, have a great weekend...

Health has its ups and down and struggling with my pace to finish things. A bit overwhelmed but ok. Ty 💕💕 at least inspired
