Last night... wow.
Apparently, t'was the biggest solar magnetic storm in a couple decades. And visible from a good chunk of the northern hemisphere on all continents.
I ended up collecting some photos from the local community group on Facebook for my mom, who's always loved the auroras - figured some here would appreciate as well. (I did NOT take these myself, only curating the best of a bunch, and never thought to note who did take/post them until too.)
Apparently there's supposed to be a round 2 tonight as well, though not extending as far south in the the US - but anyone in Canada and possibly anywhere in upper northern hemisphere might be lined up for another show IF ya got clear skies in about 7-8 hours... :-)
Very nice! It was pretty awesome where we were too. My wife finally got to see the lights and I was so happy for her.
Looks so beautiful and colorful
I must admit it wasn’t quite as epic to the visible eye - the cameras really amplify the color and brightness so pics look WAY more dramatic. But still was pretty awesome nonetheless as it was.
