This posting is about cat that is commonly kept as a pet. The scientific name for cat is Felis Silvestris Catus, thus the title for my posting ๐Ÿ˜ Cats have furs that is pleasing to touch. Cats also make a high-pitched, baby-like meows and comforting purrs. Cats is born with characteristics that make humans want to take care of them.

Based from wikipedia, cats were first domesticated in the near east which which roughly encompassing a region comprise of Western Asia, Turkey, and Egypt. The time was around 7500 BC. and tt was long thought that cat domestication was initiated in ancient Egypt.

Cats during ancient Egypt were represented in social and religious practices for more than 3,000 years. Even, several ancient Egyptian deities were depicted and sculptured with cat-like heads. The deities are such as Mafdet, Bastet and Sekhmet.

There are also superstitions related to cat. In Malaysia, one of the best known superstition are such as when black cat crosses oneโ€™s path, bad luck will follow. Also when a black cat jump over a dead body, an evil spirit will possess the body ๐Ÿ˜ฑ

Referring to SPCA website, as of 2021, there are an estimated of 220 million owned and 480 million stray cats in the world. While in Malaysia, as of 2021, the cat population of about 795,000 cats. Where 27% of the cat population is stray cat.

I make it a habit to feed stray cat. There are friend of mine that is asking, whether will the stray cat starve if no one feed them. The answer is no. Why? Because cats are natural born hunters. Even a domesticated cats have the instinct to hunt for prey as cats normally do in the wild.

When you stop feeding the cats, they likely will stay in the same area, but forced to expand their search for food. Hungry cat usually will create a conflict with another cat within the area.

For those who live in a apartment or any other high-rise properties, keeping a pet such as cat is sometimes and mostly prohibited. But, if we were to refer the law, according to By-Law 14 in the Third Schedule of the Strata Management (Maintenance & Management) Regulations 2015, high-rise residents are allowed to keep pets unless their pets cause annoyance or a nuisance and pose health risks to other residents in the property.

Example of health risk is such as allergy reaction to cat fur. Fleas infestation from cat. Really bad ammonia smell from non hygienic litter box. Sadly, there are pets owner that is not sensitive to other and not keeping their pet in an optimal living condition.

Hi. Nice article. However, I'd like to share that the proper way to type or write scientific names is like this: Felis silvestris catus

Only the first name (the genus) starts with a capital letter. All the other names after it, the species and subspecies are never capitalized.
