Dude, looks like sandstone. Could have been a sedimentary deposit that was uplifted. This is in the Canadian Rockies right? You can see the granite (white/gray) stones in the stream. Totally different than the yellowish/brown deposit. Pretty sure it's a sedimentary layer.

It's an educated guess, but not necessarily the right answer. A geologist could give us the definitive answer.
