The Sun is the closest star to Earth and is the center of our solar system. The Sun is made up of very hot gases, mostly hydrogen and helium.
A core process inside the Sun, called nuclear fusion, produces enormous amounts of energy in the form of light and heat. This process takes place at the Sun's core, where temperatures can reach about 15 million degrees Celsius.
