Today, on our day off from work, we decided to take a break from the hot sea and my city and go to the mountains, specifically to Lika, where the temperatures are pleasantly cool even in summer, perfect for cooling off, sitting in nature, having a coffee, and, of course, enjoying a meal in beautifully arranged restaurants located in the gorgeous natural surroundings.
We sat in a restaurant called BORJE and first ordered coffee, followed by some mixed local meat, which was delicious.
I thought it would be colder since we are in the heart of Lika and surrounded by mountains, but it wasn't quite like that. It was pleasantly cool but not as fresh as it usually is at this time of year.
Winters in Lika are always snowy and very cold, so people stock up on a lot of wood for heating.
However, this past winter was the warmest on record, according to the lady working in the restaurant.
She said they didn't use even half the wood they usually do, there was hardly any snow, and even the oldest residents of Lika can't remember such a mild winter.
Overall, we had a wonderful time. We stayed for a few hours while we ate, drank, and took a short walk around the nature surrounding the restaurant and nearby houses before heading back home.
Next time, when we have a bit more time, we will visit a cave called CEROVAČKA SPILJA because we weren't dressed appropriately this time.
They say it's very cold inside, and we would have had to rush through the visit, but I prefer to walk slowly and take everything in, so we postponed it for another time.
All in all, a short but beautiful family half-day trip.
