Preparations for Winter

Yesterday was such a varied day that it was both usefully good, but for me, it could have been a bit more enjoyable, like it was for my brother who went fishing and caught a few nice fish called sea bream.
They can grow quite large and are very tasty, so I was a bit jealous because it’s a real pleasure to pull such big fish out of the sea.

The day started for me and my older son by helping a friend who has a wood saw that I bought and received two days earlier.
This year, it’s six cubic meters because we still have about three cubic meters left from last year, so it will be more than enough since, thank God, winters here are mild—at least they have been so far.

After he sawed all the wood into pieces of about 25-30 cm, we slowly started chopping them because otherwise, they wouldn’t fit in the wood stove.

During this time, my brother was out fishing and caught some beautiful sea bream, one of the tastiest and also most expensive fish in restaurants in our area.

My wife and younger son went to the nearby town of Šibenik, where a VR arcade had opened with VR headsets and games, and of course, my son immediately wanted to try it out.
Naturally, today he used his savings to order VR headsets for home so he can play on his computer.
Although I didn’t agree with this decision, when you calculate how much he would spend at the arcade, it seems that buying his own headset is actually a better idea in the long run—not only in terms of the games themselves but also in terms of gas and parking fees when I drive him to Šibenik for the arcade.

Yesterday and today, we’ve been chopping wood bit by bit because six cubic meters is quite a lot and the wood is rather hard.

Once we finished chopping, we loaded the wood onto a trailer and took it to the storage where we keep it dry. In winter, each of us takes some wood in buckets to our apartments and fills the wood box, so there’s enough for the whole day and evening, and we don’t have to go outside unless we absolutely have to.

The nicest thing for me is when the fire is burning and crackling nicely, it’s cold outside, and I sit inside, warm, watching the fire, drinking coffee, cocoa, or tea. It’s just wonderful, and those are the moments no one can buy.

Now that we’re stocked up on firewood, we can relax, and I can go fishing more often with my brother, which I also love because it also relaxes the nerves nicely by the sea.

I hope you also have your own oasis of relaxation, or a hobby, or a corner of your home that brings you peace like it does for me.

Wishing you a pleasant day, dear friends.
