Promised update on the Canadian Geese on golden pond.

I promised a few weeks ago to make this post, when I showed a single Goose feeding around the pond.

They were trading off egg sitting duties.

Here's the reason:

They have 6 goslings!

The goslings are probably like ducklings, and can't swim while they are so little and fluffy. So their folks brought them out for a drink.

Don't worry, this water is all stormwater run off, so it is quite clean. Safer than the pond, where they might slip in; before they are ready to swim!

I also noticed that there is one of the six, that is "Daddy's Boy":

You can see him here, just behind Dad; delayed by the Tough climb, but hanging in...tough little guy!

The others used a discarded sign for a ramp:

And went right to Momma! The sixth is still following Dad....

I would love to feed them, but they are wild, and I don't want them to become dependent! So I must abstain, unless I find a way to sneak in some food so they don't know where it came from.

I will try to steal a few shots as they grow, and keep you updated! But I'm thrilled they are old enough this year for goslings.

Sort:

Great to see them doing well.

They were very cute...hadn't learned to walk well yet. 🐣🐣🐣🐣

But they are doing well, I'm not sure what a normal hatch rate is; but this pond will support the family well! 👍💗🤠😁💦

Stay safe!

💗🤠💙👍😁

Its a goooooooose!!
Never mistake a duck for a goose

Or you get 'goosed' right, LOL? They are 💞 precious, I was just guessing by them bringing the goslings out away from the pond, that they share the same characteristics as ducks. 🦆🦆

But holding them would be Very dangerous with Daddy on guard! He is watchful, and magnificent!!!!👍💗🐣✊

I saw some dogs running by the pond, and he was following their progress close to the pond...no doubt that would have surprised some dogs!

😆👍💗🐣🤠🤕

😂👌🏽👍🏼
Cackle

Make great guards, especially when they nesting, they have teeth!
Lawn mowing machines! =P

I have no doubt! We had a goose when I was little.... 😁👍💥

Daddy is impressive, and I'm betting on him! Those goslings are totally safe.

💞👍💗🤠😁

So awesome man, a farm boy myself from South Africa, also enjoy taking snares out the bush, found a few bushbuck trapped in them over the years, our dogs too! :/ check you have a doggie in your profile too!

Love animals, wish for more humans to connect and interact with more living things moreso than internet of things.

Cheers @smithlabs hope to find more living things on HIVE.
xD

The dog in the picture was a rescue that I re-homed to a forever home! My wife and I rescue dachshunds. We have re-homed several dozen, and have raised half a dozen here. They are just like short legged people, each one is different!

The one I have right now was too abused as a puppy to re-home. Someone tried to beat him into submission, and just made him very suspicious of men. He now seems my petting, but it has taken 3 years to get there!

I hunt for food ( not much time lately), but I don't waste any food either. I have seen as many as 9 deer on my homestead. The land around the lake is very rich in wildlife, and I hope to keep it that way! 🦌🦌🦌

Just for fun, this meme was emailed to me so I don't know where it came from:

I'll look at joining on hive, discord will require me to violate protocol and let Google back into my phone. ☎️📱📞

It has cost me many hours to purge them from here to date! They mean us no good.

I ride a fine line of fighting to be a google ghost. By removing enough from my phone, they have lost me. They think I'm 30 and living in Ca, so it's working well!

I don't use chrome (use duckduckgo it...drives them nuts!) And don't install their apps. This impedes their data collecting pretty effectively. 🥵🥶👎🗡️😆

Even with GPS off, Google can I.D. your phone and record location; every time you open one of their apps! This back door is built in to every app, and is active any time you use chrome. I refuse to help them steal my private information!

But I'll look in on the minnow group, sounds interesting. Might be fun.... 🐟🐠🐡
