White flowers are considered "rare" in the wild because their color is typically caused by a lack of pigment (anthocyanins). However White flowers are considered beautiful for many reasons, including their versatility, symbolism, and ability to evoke feelings of joy and optimism. White flowers can represent purity, innocence, serenity, and new beginnings. I have came across few of them, the Rose, the Lily, the Jasmine are few to name. These flowers were rich in fragrance. This time around I came across another breed of White flower, and it appears very besutiful and attractive.
Although this flower lacks, any fragrance, but the appearance is very beautiful. The petals appears to be thin crust of paper very delicate. The flower I am referring is related to **Bottle Gourd. This year, I sowed some seeds and now it started to flower. This is the first flower that appears on the long bale, climbing on tip of a plant. Like the yellow plant, the white flower does pulled my attention. As I generslly find white flower very rare in nature.
For a flower to be white, a genetic mutation must occur that disrupts the production of these pigments. I think there are lot of studies to get into deep of the scientific reason. Bottle gourd flowers are large, white, and open at night. *Bottle gourd flowers are white, attractive, and up to 4 inches in diameter. They have spreading petals and grow singly on the axils of the leaves. Male flowers grow on long peduncles, while female flowers grow on short peduncles.
In my village almost every home have this plant. People like eating *bottle gourd(, also known as "lauki" in hindi primarily because of its high water content which helps with hydration, its low calorie count aiding weight management, and its fiber content which promotes good digestion. It does not require much care and grows of its own. Bottle gourd (Lagenaria siceraria) is an annual, vining plant that is part of the squash family. It has large, softly hairy leaves and grows quickly, spreading over large areas.
All parts of the bottle gourd plant are edible, including the flowers, seeds, leaves, and young stems.
The bottle gourd fruit can be harvested young and eaten as a vegetable, or harvested when mature and dried for use as a container, utensil, or musical instrument. Last time around, we had the biggest gourd in my backyard. Looking forward to see some good quality this year around too. In the meantime, I am enjoying these white beauty on my terrace.
These flower wither by evening. As it grows at night and remain blossomed while day. As the sunset approaches it starts to wither. But in all the time, looking at it gives some positive vibes. Bottle gourd are considered to have a cooling effect on the body, making it particularly popular in hot climates, and is packed with essential vitamins and minerals like vitamin C, potassium, and calcium. So having a plant at home is boon for a good health. This is the first time I have this on my terrace. Hope to see some good fruits out of these flowers.
Peace!!
