The cover picture already gives away a little of where I was hanging out this weekend.
The lost place for this night was at an altitude of about 400 metres in the middle of the forest. Fortunately, you could drive right up to the entrance, which was very nice.
The building complex was a leisure and recreation centre during the GDR era. The large holiday home was the first new building in the history of tourism in the GDR and was built between 1952 and 1954. It was commissioned by the GDR's unified trade union, the FDGB, which was largely responsible for providing holiday places in the GDR. The home was named after the KPD politician Fritz Heckert (1884-1936). At least that's what it says on Wikipedia and on an information board.
Das Titelbild verrät schon ein wenig, wo ich mich an diesem Wochenende rumgetrieben habe.
Der Lost Place für diese Nacht stand auf cirka 400 Höhenmeter mitten im Wald. Zum Glück konnte man mit dem Auto direkt bis vor den Eingang fahren, was schonmal sehr sympatisch war.
Der Gebäudekomplex war zu Zeiten der DDR ein Freizeit- und Erholungsheim. Das große Ferienheim war der erste Neubau in der Geschichte des Tourismus in der DDR und entstand in den Jahren von 1952 bis 1954. Es entstand im Auftrag der DDR-Einheitsgewerkschaft FDGB, die in der DDR maßgeblich für die Bereitstellung von Urlaubsplätzen verantwortlich war. Benannt wurde das Heim nach dem KPD-Politiker Fritz Heckert (1884–1936). So steht es zumindest bei Wikipedia und auf einer Informationstafel.

The building has not been in good condition since it was closed in 1990. A lot of vandalism and various storms have taken their toll on the building. Allegedly, it is now to be demolished to build flats there, so locals have told us.
You can see what it looked like back then when people went there on holiday in the following pictures, which you can see on the information board.
Das Gebäude befindet sich , seit der Schließung 1990, in keinem guten Zustand. Sehr viel Vandalismus und diverse Stürme haben dem Gebäude stark zugesetzt. Angeblich soll es nun abgerissen werden, um dort Wohnungen zu bauen, so haben uns Einheimische berichtet.
Wie es damals ausgesehen hat, als dort die Menschen Urlaub machten, seht ihr auf den nachfolgenden Bildern, die man sich auf der Infotafel anschauen konnte.
I was just about to pack up my bag to go to one of the upper floors, when the "floating woman" was there again. Those who follow my posts regularly will already know this good lady from other light painting adventures.
Ich wollte gerade meine Tasche zusammen packen, um in eine der oberen Etage zu gehen, da war die "schwebende Frau" wieder da. Wer meine Beträge regelmäßig verfolgt, kennt diese gute Dame bereits aus anderen Lightpainting Abenteuern.

The upper floors contained the bedrooms and sanitary facilities, which led off from long corridors. I used one of the corridors for my next picture.
In den oberen Etagen befanden sich die Schlafräume sowie Sanitäreinrichtungen, die von langen Fluren abgingen. Einen der Flure habe ich für mein nächstes Bild verwendet.

For this picture, I walked down the corridor with my D18 torch and a yellow colour filter and gave it some light. Afterwards I grabbed a piece of LED strip and walked down the corridor again.
Für dieses Bild bin ich mit meiner D18 Taschenlampe und einem gelben Farbfilter durch den Flur gelaufen und habe ihm etwas Licht verpasst. Danach habe ich mir ein Stück LED-Strip geschnappt und bin wieder den Flur entlanggelaufen.
The last picture was taken shortly before sunrise. In the meantime I had found the other colleagues again, who had all spread out somewhere in the building. We were just about to pack our things and go back to the hotel when I discovered a small room the size of a broom closet. Together we puzzled over what it had once been. There was nothing in the room except for these strange holes (three next to each other). I tried to shine a torch into one of the holes, but I couldn't see what was behind it. Brave as I am, I reached my arm into one of the gaps to find out if they were connected. Lots of pigeon shit awaited me and from one side you could actually reach over to the other hatch. This made it possible for me to bring some light from behind into the frame of the hatch with a torch when realising my picture idea. The light figure in the middle was created with camera rotation, as the expert light artist has surely already recognised.
Sometimes you are lucky and everything works out on the first try. The other people were already tired and grumpy. The sun was rising, the picture was done, so off to bed.
Das letzte Bild entstand kurz vor Sonnenaufgang. Inzwischen hatte ich die anderen Kollegen wiedergefunden, die sich alle irgendwo im Gebäude verteilt hatten. Wir wollten gerade unsere Sachen packen und zurück ins Hotel fahren, da entdeckte ich einen kleinen Raum, der die Größe einer Besenkammer hatte. Gemeinsam rätselten wir, was das wohl mal gewesen ist. In dem Raum gab es nix, außer diese seltsamen Lucken (drei nebeneinander). Ich versuchte mit Hilfe einer Taschenlampe in eine der Lucken zu leuchten, konnte aber nicht erkennen was dahinter war. Mutig wie ich nicht bin, griff ich mit dem Arm in eine der Lucken, um herauszufinden, ob diese miteinander verbunden sind. Jede Menge Taubenscheiße erwartete mich und von der einen Seite konnte man tatsächlich rüber zur anderen Lucke greifen. Dadurch war es mir möglich bei der Umsetzung meiner Bildidee, mit einer Taschenlampe etwas Licht von Hinten in den Rahmen der Lucke zu bringen. Die Lichtfigur in der Mitte ist mit Kamerarotation entstanden, wie der fachkundige Lichtkünstler sicherlich schon erkannt hat.
Manchmal hat man auch Glück und alle klappt bei dem ersten Versuch. Die anderen Herrschaften waren nämlich schon müde und nörgelig. Die Sonne ging auf, das Bild war fertig, also ab ins Bett.

Another visit to the Harz Mountains is planned for February this year. Especially the eastern part of the Harz is very interesting for light artists because of the former separation of Germany. I'm looking forward to a fun weekend with @lichtkunstfoto, @candelart and Hans.

Im Frebruar diesen Jahres ist ein weiterer Besuch im Harz geplant. Besonders der Ostteil des Harzes ist aufgrund der früheren Teilung Deutschlands, sehr interessant für Lichtkünstler. Ich freue mich schon auf ein spaßiges Wochenende mit @lichtkunstfoto, @candelart und Hans.
