THE BEAUTY AROUND

Greetings everyone and always lookat the Amazing beauty around. Walking around my office premises today during my lunch break, this beauty caught my attention. How did I not notice this amazing flower since ?
And with my phone 🤳 in my hand, I took a few pictures which I want to share here.... For the love of nature and Photography.

It a beautiful flower called ' Canna 'Yellow King Humbert' Burbank.

Curious about the flower, I decided to read about it... This is what I found out.

The earliest reference to this cultivar is in a US Gardening catalogue of 1929. It was reputed to be a mutation of Canna 'Roi Humbert' (synonym C. 'King Humbert') and was confirmed to be such by Dr Khoshoo in his published papers.

On rare occasions it has also been known to produce stems where the foliage is all dark and the flowers are all red. That is the source of Canna 'Red King Humbert', amongst others.

All main catalogue references until the early 1990s are consistent in their descriptions of an Italian Group chimera cultivar, yellow with red spots.

MULTIPLE NAMES
One interesting discovery I made during this small research is that this flower has many names and synonyms. Every area it goes, it has a new name.
Few of its names are listed below

Canna 'Anthony and Cleopatra' - name confined to Europe.

Canna 'Cleopatra' - the name first appeared in US catalogs in the 1960s, not to be confused with C. 'Cleopatré' which is a Crozy Group cultivar from the 1890s.

Canna 'Fusion' - name confined to eBay in USA.

Canna 'Goldkrone' - confined to Europe.

Canna 'Harlequin' - name appears to be confined to the USA.

Canna 'Queen Helena' - name appears to be confined to the USA.

Canna 'Queen of Italy' - name confined to India.

Canna 'Spanish Emblem' - - name appears to be confined to the USA.

Canna 'Striped Queen' - name confined to India

Canna 'Yellow Humbert' - first appeared in the 1990s, presumably as a shorthand for the correct name.

USES
Although not a true lily, the Canna lily comes in a rainbow of colors and can add dramatic emphasis to your
garden. With a huge selection of flower and leaf colors, there is sure to be a canna that will add pizzazz to
your garden. While the flowers of some varieties of cannas are the show, in others it’s the huge, tropical-
looking foliage, and in many modern varieties, it is both. Boldly and brazenly patterned, ‘Yellow King
Humbert’ Canna has one of the most eye catching blooms of this already flashy tropical flower! Big yellow flowers are splashed with orange and offset by bright green leaves.

Thank you for reading and remain blessed
