Buttonwood Park

Buttonwood Park

Today I will share a few shots from a visit to Buttonwood Park here in New Bedford called by many and I think very aptly the Jewel of the city

Located on 97 acres in New Bedford’s West End, Buttonwood Park is the largest and most visited public park in the city. The park is an oasis of nature right here in New Bedford, with gardens, a pond, an arboretum, walking paths, a playground, a zoo, and several ball fields and basketball courts.

Buttonwood Park is not just a treasure for its recreational opportunities — it’s also a historical treasure. In 1895, Charles Eliot of the famed architectural firm Olmsted, Olmsted & Eliot developed the original master plan for the park. In 1988, a new Olmsted-inspired master plan was adopted, serving as a blueprint for The Friends of Buttonwood Park to improve the park.

In 2000, Buttonwood Park and parts of the surrounding neighborhood were listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Today, Buttonwood Park offers the community a place to escape from the stresses of city life and enjoy nature
I went to the park to see how the fall colors were doing, this was a wek or so ago and I hope when I share this post in a few days I will have revisited the park to catch more of the colors

But while there i had to walk by the pond and of course I cannot resist catching a shotof the tree on the little island in the pond

qand walk around the pond to get this shot of the warming house

Its called a warming house from when in winter skating onthe pond when it was frozen was popular, not sure if many skate on it in winter these days when its cold enough for the pond to be frozen over its too cold for me to get out for many walks

This is an extraordinarily beautiful park, it's not just humans who enjoy being there, the birds also look very happy playing in the pond.

ohh yes it is sucvh a beautiful park, always lots of birds on and around the pond

The pond give a good view and also the tree in the arbotereum area, Olmsted did a great work for the park on his master plan, the photos you took are stunning 🥰🙏

thanks so much it so deserves its title of the Jewel of the city

You are right about it, continue to have a good time 🥰🙏

very good looking views, but freezing temperatures are coming up

OHh yeah tomorrow morning its going to be at Fereezing point when I normally got for a walk not ready for that yet

Looks like the trees are trying to turn, but still having a bit of trouble. We have been getting some rain and wind here lately, so things are finally starting to just fall right off. We didn't get much in the way of colors so far this year.
