Neds Point Light
One spot I visit now and again is Neds Point Park in Mattapoisett MA, I do love lighthouses for some reason and its one of the ones here fairly close and easy to get to its a nice park with access to a beach where i see people often walkign there dogs inthe early morning when I visit there, but for this post I will just focus onthe lighthouse
I have to admit my favorite shot of it is when there are soem nice colors of sunrise behind it, but will just include one of those in this post and show it from other angles mostly on more mundane sky days

a little bit about the ligthhouse
Ned Point Light as it is official called I believe is a historic lighthouse on Ned's Point Road in Mattapoisett, Massachusetts.
The lighthouse was built in 1838 at a cost of approximately $5,000, and named after Ned Dexter, a local farmer. Supervised by a local builder, Leonard Hammond, the lighthouse was constructed with a birdcage-style lantern similar to Bird Island Light found in Marion, Massachusetts.
All the stone used for the construction of the lighthouse was locally sourced, with most of it originating from nearby beaches.
Inside, Which I didn't get to see, are 32 granite steps that are cantilevered to the outside wall without the use of mortar. The original lantern used 11 whale oil lamps, each with its own parabolic reflector. And like other lighthouses I have read up on around here the Whale oil no doubt came from the New Bedford Whaling ships.
The Great Blizzard of 1888 significantly damaged the keeper's stone house, resulting in it being demolished and the building of a wooden replacement.
Following modernization in 1961, the lighthouse was reactivated in 1961 with its current 6-second isophase.
It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.
I saw a post of Farcebook that they just put some christmas lights up on it, I will try and go check that out one day soon

That second one with the sun is really great! We have had some amazing sunsets here lately, but I haven't been able to get out and take some shots. The best I got are some I will probably share later that my wife took on our drive home.
thanks, an dyes there have been some real nice sunsets here recently, I only got out for a walk and got shots of one in the cemtery near us, others i just saw out the window, its bene frustratign weather the days warm enough for a walk its bene rainy or windy or as is the case today a nice day goign up to 65 but heavy rain and gale force winds coming
That doesn't surprise me about the weather. We have a system rolling through right now and they are calling for heavy snowfalls again in the snow bands across Michigan. I'm expecting another 3 to 4 inches here.
Luckily, well in my mind not so lucky inothe rpeoples minds we have only had a few flakes fall hardle any has settled, I do think snow can look beautiful but the idea of shovelling out the drive and walk ways just isnt fun for me these days
I like snow when I don't have anywhere I need to be.
What a beautiful lighthouse, I would sit on that bench and enjoy the scenery
What beautiful photographs @tattoodjay
thank you, when I go out i am too busy walking and taking photos I seldom sit, but the time my wife =visited there with me she enjoyed sittign and relaxing on that bench
No doubt that your photos are beautiful, and the second one is the one I like the most. Excellent place to contemplate the sea. Have a nice week friends.🤗

I like the one with the sunrise colors behind it as well. Beautiful! Interesting history behind the lighthouse, and it makes since to use whale oil because it was likely abundant there in a whaling town. I love old lighthouses, they are always fun visit. If they have the Christmas lights up you'll have to share a picture!
thanks, I do love lighthouses there are so many here in New England , I would love to do a trip for a week or so exploring the lighthouses along the coats here and beyond, but my wife isnt keen on any trips just yet, well of course not in winter lOL
Whoa Brother amazing shots, that cover shot is epic. Keep them coming, you are talented my friend. Have a blessed one.

Very cool to show all the different lighting on the lighthouse. I think I like the sunrise the best but that last one with the light on is cool too.
thanks for the feedback ;)

I love how the lighthouse looks with the sunrise colors in the background. Lighthouses always have such a cool vibe, and the history behind this one is really interesting.
