Photography Lovers End of Year Contest
I have this thing with contests I do not really like entering them generally, not that I am not competitive, I am with myself, driving myself to do better, but for a variety of reasons I wont bore you with here, but thinking about the end of year approaching, and how the focus of this is on our favorite photos and not what we perceive as our best photos I thought I would do an entry.
If your interesting in the contest you can read about it here
Starting with this simple shot of a bird flying by over the rising sun and the rays of light
Sony A7iii 110mm F6.3 1/640 Sec ISO 100

This is taken along the harbor walk one morning a place I often head to for early morning walks to get some exercise and a few photos, and is a totally lucky shot I was aiming to catch the rays of light and this bird happened to fly into shot.
perhaps to many nothing special about it, but looking at it even now a few months after I took it I find this image calming and relaxing.
Next up a Statue in Noahs Playground on Popes Island here in New Bedford
Sony A7iii 28mm F8 3.2 Sec ISO 100

Now Noah was a young boy who died in 2016 from complications of mitochondrial disease at the age of 14, and his parents spearheaded the project after to have a park built and opened that was fully accessible for children with special needs, I found the statue and the little soft bunny toy on his lap quite touching.
As I said I am focusing on my favorite photos, and ones that have some special meaning or feeling to me, if the contest was for what I consider my best photos I would not be doing this entry.
Next up is a photo of this portion of I guess control room, of the lightship Nantucket here in New Bedford,
Sony A7iii 75mm F8 15 Sec ISO 100

I have taken many photos of this big ship from various angles but early one morning while it was still pretty dark I noticed the red glow in the windows and got this shot
And this next shot of an Osprey flying back with a fish to its nest
Sony A7iii 240mm F8 1/250 Sec ISO 1600
Definitely now a great shot, but on my morning walks I often saw this Osprey fly out and dive and catch fish, of course as luck or lack of luck would have it never when I had my biggest zoom lens with me, and I had tried to get some shots with my 24-240 Lens a couple of times but often I had bene taking long exposure shots earlier and hadn't changed the settings, and never got any what I would call good shots of it, infact I didn't think I had any shots of it worth editing till a couple of weeks ago, going through my photo catalogues I came across this one I must have missed when I imported the photos of the camera, but i include this in my favorites as I did catch a shot of it with a fish, and secondly as motivation to try again next year and get better shots of it
And finishing off with a shot that didnt come out anywhere like I was hoping for
Sony A7iii 17mm F8 30 Sec ISO 100

I was playing around with some glow sticks trying to create some light painting and circles, without a lot of success I will admit, but in the shot above the string one one of the glow sticks broke and I walked and picked it up and played around while the long exposure finished.
But in the end I found this kind of funky and crazy, perhaps like me and that's why its included in this post
And that’s all folks

The first and last ones are my favorites, but all are great :) I wonder if those ospreys will have let you get a little closer?
I dont think I will be able to get closer, but with my big lens and a new camera by the time they come back I hope for better shots of them :)
I look forward to seeing them 🙌
!PIZZA
👍🙂👍
!PIZZA and !BEER - sounds like a nice dinner :)
That photo work rays of the sun setting coming out if it is brilliant.
👏👌
Thanks so much appreciate your visit and feedback :)
I fell in love with the first photo. For a long time I dreamed of becoming a bird and seeing the whole world! I wanted to have wings and climb far, far up. To the sky. Your photo now conveys my state of mind! Thank you for these feelings!
Its my favorite as well for very similar feelings aBOUT IT THANKS FOR THE VISIT AND FEEDBACK TRULY APPRECIATED
How beautiful in every way! ❤️
Hard to pick a favorite really, im impressed at the number of wonderful images you got in one year. all the best for the new year😊😊😊
Be well, stay safe and enjoy the holiday season.
Thanks so much, I had trouble deciding which to share in this post
and looking forward to the new year and trying out a new camera, I have preordered it but no idea when they will get stock and ship it but hopefulyl early in the new year
you to Be well, stay safe and enjoy the holiday season
I am not a competitive person because I feel bad about the other people that lose when I win.
Like I don't feel life should be a place where we only have good things based on the loss of others
I presently have the right mindset towards competition and I know how to healthily compete now.
I just go in to put in my own work.
Great shot as always my dear friend and thanks for always.
Thats good feedback on competing, I feel the same way pretty much, maybe i will try and change my mindset a bit next year
Oh wow, that must have been a super long exposure for the last one. Those are some really great photos. I can imagine it would be hard to know where to point the camera to catch an osprey grabbing a fish. Since you aren't sure where they fish are and all. Best of luck to you in the contest!
Thanks that last one was 30 seconds :)
I have ruled myself out of the contest and gave something towards it, just did for fun
and my plan for the osprey is next year my long lens, the new Camera when it arrives which has bird eye focus, and stand patiently and watch it flying around and wait to catch it flying back tot he nest
Ah, okay, that makes a lot of sense. I must have missed that part of the post about not being in the contest. I apologize. That will be awesome to see the shots you get next year!
No worries
I am competitive with myself always striving to improve but just never really liked entering contests
Have a great day
Thanks, you too!
I have always loved going through your photographs. All photographs here
are my favorite because of the time and effort put in making the best outcome is satisfying. So good👌
Thanks kindly your support is appreciated
Have a great day
I remember all these photos and I have commented on them before - I like all, but the first one looks awesome, JJ. Good luck in the contest 🤞
!BEER and !WINE - both make a nice dinner with !PIZZA :)

Thanks My friend
Not really entering the contest as such, just did the post in the theme of the contest for fun
I was looking at the capture clip you have, thinking it may be handy for me I may well order one when I eventually get the new camera
My pleasure, JJ 😀
As said, I like the clip, and it's very secure. I have been hiking very fast down a mountain path last year with the long lens attached to the camera. It was bouncing up and down while I was almost running, but the camera didn't fall off.
!invest_vote
Ok I think I am I will order one soon
!PIZZA and !BEER - sounds like a nice dinner :)
!invest_vote
Have fun with it, JJ. Although it's quite expensive for such a small thing, I have never regretted it.
!PIZZA and !BEER - sounds like a nice dinner :)

You are going to laugh now I was looking through my drawers to find the peak design anchors to see if I had some spare and I found I had a capture clip I guess it’s version 1 lol
Have it on my camera bag now to use when the cuff comes in later today
!PIZZA and !BEER - sounds like a nice dinner :)
!invest_vote
Oh no, I don't laugh - you have no idea what I find in my drawers and boxes where I put the things I don't often use 🤣🤣🤣
!PIZZA and !BEER - sounds like a nice dinner :)

They are all gorgeous shots and always hit that key element in a great shot - the lighting! So luminous, it looks heavenly. The composition and the subject all work harmoniously, putting it together for that wow factor.
I go on about this one shot, but, the others are wonderful too - this one jumped out at me, so I felt like I had to give it the spotlight! :)
Good luck in the contest and win or not will be in the eye of the beholder.
Thanks your already so kind, i just entered for the fun of it, have actually asked already when they first posted about it to not be considered in the contest :)
Never been a fan of contests
I hope your day is going well
Of course I don't mean it that way because contests or just a way of highlighting good photography. It's all just for fun and when I went in some contests I just go back and get it to someone who needs it. Anyway it's gorgeous and I'm glad you shared it with everybody.
Ohh no I understand what you meant
Cheers
Lovely photography r
Thanks kindly your support is appreciated
Have a great day
If I saw you enter a photography contest, I will only enter such contest as a numeric figure. I'm yet to see anyone around here that takes constant breathtaking photos effortlessly.
I'm glad you're participating for the fun of it
Cheers
hehehehehe
you know my favorite on this bunch LOLOLOL
and i love the story behind it - cuz yes... its just so crazy and so you - but it captures real life - and i LOVE that!!!!!!!!!
That's a cool story about the osprey too! I love that you just put it in here as a note to keep trying for that
now i'll be very excited to see when you accomplish it :)
Great end of the year shots!!! and so glad that glowstick one got in there hahahaha
the one of Noah is very touching also... and i also liked the bunny hehehehehe
Thanks your always so kind and supportive
hehehehe youre my weretwin! and you make it easy :)
These are all wonderful photos. The top one with the sunset sun rays and the bird is simply outstanding!
And I love the last one with the squiggly light painting, too. Others would delete it, not you or I - there is a lot of beauty in the unusual.
On the subject of contests - I agree there are a ton out there on Hive and it may seem too much but they give me a nudge, an idea to write a post. That is the reason I enter them and why I m grateful for their organizers and hope they keep coming. They keep me from being too lazy - LOL
Thanks so much maybe I should enter more of them

Excellent photos ! I especially love the first picture, because I have always liked backlit pictures and at that specific time, it is always a perfect time to take pictures at sunset. This year was an excellent job, for all of us who like photographs, and for next year there will be more photographs from a perspective that everything will be unique and special.
Thanks so much
And yes indeed next year will be a good year for new photos
And a new camera for me
How nice that new acquisition will be, soon I too will be able to buy a new camera. Best Regards !

And you too. Do have a great day
👍🙂👍
Thank you for sharing these beautiful memories, especially about Noah.
The image of the little boys statue got mad thinking of how pained his parents must have felt to loose him to the cold hands of death and definitely anytime they walk into that park they will always remember their son. So emotional indeed. All photos in this publication is lovely 🥰.
Exactly, but they continued and spearheaded the creation of this park for other children like there son something they should be proud of
They are definitely proud of it I'm sure. Thanks for your reply
👍🙂👍
Spectacular images friend! It is one of the best I have seen. Thank you very much for sharing. I wish you a happy new year !!
Thanks so much
And wishing you all the best for the New Year
the only time i ever saw the nantucket lightship was in 1978 on the maiden voyage of the Windflower II. we sailed up quite close to it and i distinctly remember how odd it seemed seeing the ship stationed way out there where we had never ventured before
Wow that’s so interesting to hear
happy new year
Thank you and Happy New year to you :)
