Working Boats

Working Boats

For todays post I am going to share a few shots of what I call working boats as opposed to private water craft, all taken on walks around the port here in New Bedford, one difference being most of these were taken after the sun had risen and not my normal morning blues shots down by the port.

Starting with this Police boat, Not sure what exactly they do ou on the water, I guess rescues is one thing, but probably it has other tasks it takes care of as well I would imagine

This boat does tours along the coast as far as I know, this summer i may check it out and take a tour.

And another police boat, with a Port of New Bedford Boat docked behind it

Now this next shot doesnt show the boat, and infact I guess it doesnt really match my title of workign Boat as like me it is retired, but it worked in its day and in quite dangerous conditions.
Plus add the fact I don't think I have ever shared a shot of the actual light part of the Lightship, so decided to share it in this post.
I have never worked on a ship, but i have always been fascinated by masts on ships and seeing people climb them, and have always loved the idea of climbing up to the crows Nest on a boat.
and if you haven't heard the term Crows nest let me explain it

A crow's nest is a structure in the upper part of the main mast of a ship or a structure that is used as a lookout point. On ships, this position ensured the widest field of view for lookouts to spot approaching hazards, other ships, or land by using the naked eye or optical devices such as telescopes or binoculars

and of course how can I share the mast and lights, without a shot of the Lightship Nantucket

And this boat is clearly a or has been a hard working boat has a ruggged and rusted feel to it

And that’s all folks

Love the composition and reflection on the last photo tattoodjay 🙂 Great subject today and set of photos. I grew up in the mid-West far from the oceans and have always been fascinated by the idea of going to work everyday on the water.

thanks my friend
I grew up in NZ where no matter where you live your never far from the ocean, that said the ionly boats I have bene on are ferries but maybe one day I will get to experience other boats

Small efficient maneuverability for police on the water, hard working!

Harbour photography always a pleasure to see the comings and goings with life over there.

@tipu curate

thanks for the tipu curation
as you have probably noticed I do love walking by the port and seeing all the boats although the only ones I have been on are ferries

The first time I entered a boat and found myself sailing in the middle of a large body of water... It was thrilling and scary at the same time😑

If I wasn't with people, I probably would have lost it🙈

I really have only bene on ferries would love to try other types of boats at some stage

Me too... Sounds like an adventure😌😌

Images are really lovely. I've never had to sail on a boat not even for a short distance and I don't think I want to anytime soon because of fear that a storm may just occur and throw just me down the oceans depth. Lol.

thats how my wife feels about boats she has no interesting to go out on one, i myself wouldnt mind would love one day to go on three types, a fishing boat to try fishing, althought it may bore me, on an old sailing ship and maybe one day a cruise

Hahaha! You definitely will. I think the cruise will be fun for you since you're a boat lover 🥰

Yes thats true, but I also dont like crowds which kind of puts me off doing a cruise lOL

You can hire the boat for just you without getting involved with any one yunno. After all the river is spacious enough for you to have your privacy.

That would be more my style lol

The Detroit River, separating Detroit, MI from Windsor, ON, frequently sees both US police boats and RCMP police boats patrol the river. The difference in the two is striking. The US boats are similar to small speed boats, while the RCNP boats are much larger, like small yachts. It was interesting to see how the two police forces took different approaches to patrolling.

that is interesting maybe one day that could be a post for you showing the two types of boats

I would, but I don't see me getting back up to Windsor anytime soon.

I really need to renew my passport.

reminds me I must check that my passport is still valid

I've been on ferries going one place or another, but I have never been on a ship out in the ocean. My dad was in the Navy and he has always had a love for the water. These are some great shots. I know around here besides search an rescue the police also patrol for stuff like operating while intoxicated and stuff like that.

Yes I have taken many ferries over the years but never been on a fishing boat or a cruise ship, but who knows maybe one day
thats a good point that they could well do the same here monitoring people being safe and sober out on the water

Cruise ships just rub me the wrong way. As much as I don't like big crowds, I also don't like the idea of being that closely quartered with so many people!

I am the same way so it makes me wonder why sometimes I think I would like to do a cruise

What a fun post! I love everything about the water and its charm. Those working on the water, especially the watermen collecting shellfish, really work hard to keep that foodchain moving. They would set me straight on the fun part.

Like the way you have captured some of them, in their raw, rusted state waiting on the redo. Somehow, some can carry it off, looking authentically seaworthy.

You and water make the best of friends.

Thanks yes the commercial fisherman may well disagree on the fun part and they are a hardy bunch

I do love walks by the water it really is my happy place

Really cool to see @tattoodjay 😎
They are just that, working boats. And so many of them.
You portrayed them beautifully. Great subject to photograph.

Thanks I do love walks down the port by these boats

I can imagine… @tattoodjay
You are welcome!

Have a great day further ☀️

it seems that the place is very active for the work of the ships that are there.

Always love your photography dear! I love the thought process that goes into these ❤️
