Wild Forest Life

As I've already mentioned, spring in our city is not the most pleasant sight, perhaps the ugliest time of the year. Gray snow, gray sky, gray people tired after a long winter. Only by June our city begins to be covered with greenery and painted in the golden colors of the non-setting polar sun.

However, nothing prevents me from leaving this stone jungle and seeing how nature wakes up. Near the city you will not find a dense forest, only unsightly trees on hundreds of hills around. But there, in the south, are impenetrable Karelian forests, with age-old pine trees, the tops of which scratch the clouds. But even earlier, literally an hour away is the border zone, the place where the far north ends (or begins, depending on which side to look at) and mixed forests spread out, which give shelter to dozens species of animals.

Absolutely beautifully written and so evocative of your neck of the woods, so to speak. Thankyou for sharing - I am transported.

It's not too cold yet, a little frost on the windscreen in the morning and I am now putting on a scarf for the early part of the day :P

Road trip was absolutely magical. A lot of time in nature and feeling a sense of freedom unlike anything I've felt for a long time. To think I was probably the furthest Hiver from you where I was on the Tasman peninsula at one point...

I've seen them in a wildlife zoo there. My hubs saw one in the wild crossing scrub at a distance but I only got a glimpse - even Tasmanians who lived there their entire life don't see them. I've also seen them as road kill sadly.

Nice seeing the birds in your corner of the planet, dear Northman. I will have a go to figure out what kind they may be…

The first long legged bird looks similar to the Great Blue Heron but they wouldn’t be that far North. It’s probably a Crane.

So many different ducks in the world. The green headed duck is the male mallard with his less colorful mate. This duck is quite common here.

I think the black headed duck is a Common Eider with mate. 😯 Pillows have been stuffed with their (eider) feathers.

As for the bird with the long thin beak …some kind of sandpiper?

Good capture of the beaver’s wood’s work. I’ve seen a few beaver dams but can never get a photo of the beaver.

The last time I saw a beaver up close was as a preteen My father was a forest ranger (called game warden then) and I went with him and another warden to watch as they removed a beaver and relocated him …there was a complaint his present dam was blocking an area.

Great shots! Since moving to the snow free west coast of Canada many years ago, I realize how I forget the beauty that winter can bring. I grew up in an environment with intense winters. These photos remind me of that spring thaw where all the humans and animals come out to play. Thanks for the trip down memory lane!

Wow, here in June we are at 27 degrees centigrade. I cannot imagine what it would be to have snow in the mid of May!
Anyway, beautiful photos these are! Thanks for sharing with us!

I really prefer cooler climate. Of course when you want to visit the seaside for a vacation you will be better at about 30 degrees, but otherwise 20-25 ish temperature is preferable!

Why?? I grow up in similar kind of place! :)

Excellent writing and some pretty amazing shots! Keep up the awesome work.

I made it to Sweden alright. There was a few problems along the way with my itinerary having to be completely changed along the way. But, i made it in one piece and on time. hahaha Trying to get my schedule back to something kind of normal.

That artist your wife likes is pretty amazing. If that's your wife's art there... she is going to do VERY WELL here. If she makes a post about her art (which i would encourage to be published in the Alien Art Hive Community) make sure she puts links for any source material she is inspired by... just to cover the bases safely. Tell her i said it's amazing that she is getting her art going!

Wow !!!! Beautiful nature.
