Winter in the Netherlands.

Winter in the Netherlands is often a period of grey weather with a lot of rain and cold winds. Not so much of fun, but sometimes we get "lucky" and have a bit of snow. For me as a photography lover, that is a great opportunity to go out.

This year we haven't had those conditions yet, but hopefully a few snowy days will come. These pictures are from last year during a -15 Celsius morning in the north eastern part of the Netherlands, called Twente. I went to that place since there are some typical old buildings that I thought would look nice in a snowy landscape.

Arnhem

In my home town Arnhem there are some small hills. Unlike most other parts of the Netherlands. So when the opportunity is there, people from Arnhem are coming to the old white building that is on top of the hill in the city park to ride their sledges down the hill. It's a sort of a tradition for young and old.

And where you see the young kids with their parents carefully go down the first few times eventually you even see the elder people are going down head first like the child in them has awoken all of the sudden. It's big fun to watch and for me as photographer who doesn't do a lot of action photography, it was big fun too!

The white house on top of the building is a restaurant and they served hot chocolate, soup and other warm snacks trough a window, as this snow fun happened in the midst of a long lockdown. The Mayor of Arnhem allowed the people their much desired little spark of fun for the weekend and after that the restaurant was not allowed to serve alcoholic beverages anymore and group forming was also not allowed. Nonetheless the people were thankful they had had this opportunity to forget about Covid for a while. A virus outbreak after this event never happened.

That house with the giant tree growing through it was awesome! You got some really great shots here in this post. I am going to have to start thinking of new and creative ways to say that! hahaha

That house looks amazing, right ?! I have seen a similar scene somewhere near Gouda (Netherlands).

Thank you! Yes, it’s amazing and interestingly weird. Thanks for sharing that about tip about Gouda, I’ll have a look! 😀👍

Thanks a lot @castleberry That house with the tree growing through it is really something special. It is so weird and funny in the same time that you ask yourself what the story must be. Until today I’m not sure, but I will find out one day. The house is on private property. We had to ask permission to go there. The current owner couldn’t tell us much about it but they keep it this was because it’s just so unique.

Thanks again for your kind words! 🙏

Truly! That's not just some small tree either. I always thought it would be cool to have a tree inside the house or something like that. Glad you were able to get permission and get a shot to share. Gives a new meaning to the definition of a Tree-House! hahaha

Haha, that’s true! Hopefully I can return during spring time and get some more background info about it. 😀👍

Looks like so much fun

It definitely was! Thanks for stopping by.

Heerlijk zo veel sneeuw!! Daar verlang ik echt naar. Prachtige serie foto's!

Dankjewel! Ja, het zou echt fijn zijn als we nog even een weekje krijgen zoals vorig jaar! 😀

Very cool to see this! The park and the tree in the little house are stil on my list to photograp :)

Thanks a lot! Hopefully we get another week like this. The opportunities to photograph the Netherlands in winter conditions are rare. I have many places still on my list too, may it occur. 😀👍

The Netherlands and several countries in Europe have cold air temperatures that are not the same as us in Southeast Asia. The Netherlands is a great country and always gives beauty every day. The winter season looks very attractive for nature and photography lovers. Thanks for sharing some of these beautiful photos.

Thank you very much! The temperatures differ a lot between our countries. During these cold and rainy winters I often dream of going back to Southeast Asia. 😅

You are welcome!
Not really! in asia it's too often summer and it's really hard to relax!

Hello @thijsvermeer, The Netherlands will forever hold a place in my heart. I lived in Leiden for a year and a half, and luckily Arnhem was the city I stayed for two weeks when I first arrived. Beautiful country, and I admire the culture and people. Hopefully I'll get to visit again:)

That is so nice to hear! Leiden is a beautiful city and what a coincidence you stayed in Arnhem too. 😀 Thank you for the kind words and hopefully you’ll be able to visit the Netherlands once again! 👍

🤞 Someday:)

Great shots, well done! You have my votes and my following :).

Thanks a lot! 🙏 I just found out about you and saw some great Icelandic photography. You have my vote and following too. 😀👍 I’ll share some Iceland photos myself too in de coming posts.

Winter in Netherlands looks amazing, I like the picture best where you have that old tree growing through the house.

Thank you! 🙏 Yes, that house with the tree growing through it is some weird and funny sight. Not sure about the story about what happened there. One day I’ll find out and share about it. 😀👍
