Lipova, a small town in Romania, in the evening
Hello photography lovers
In today's post I want to show you what the neighboring town I live next to, Lipova, looks like, not a very big town, but with an amazing history.
The first documentary evidence of Lipova dates back to 1314 under the name of Lipva. In 1324 the settlement is mentioned under the name of castellanus de Lypua, a topic that reflects the fortified character of the settlement at that time.
The city is situated on both banks of the Mures River, at its entrance in the Plain of Arad, at the foot of the Zarand Mountains, in the area of their contact with the Lipovei Hills.Traces of ancient Neolithic, Dacian and Roman settlements have been discovered on the territory of Lipova, proving the presence of an earlier settlement. In 1315 the settlement is recorded under the name of Lipva, and in 1440 it is declared a free town. In the 15th century, the fortress belonged to the Huns.
Lipova was located on the Mures river, in the north of Banat, and was disputed by the Habsburgs and the Ottomans. Between 1552- 1595 and 1613- 1718, Lipova was ruled by the Turks (with interruptions), but after the signing of the Peace of Passarowitz in 1718, the town was definitively returned to the Habsburgs. However, Lipova is one of the few remaining Turkish-ruled towns in which traces of the Turks have survived, one of the most representative buildings being the Turkish Bazaar.
The first stop we will make in this beautiful city is in the central park, and here we can see that the fall landscape has already made its presence, being quite cold the park was deserted, so I could take pictures without bothering anyone.
Yes I know, it seems strange that next to a public park there is a cemetery, but here it is.
This picture below is my favorite.
Still very close to the city center we made two more stops at the two churches here, the Orthodox Church and the Roman Catholic Church.
We left at the end the stop at the most famous and visited place in Lipova, namely the Monastery of St. Mary of Radna, here every year when it is celebrated St. Mary (August 15) come thousands of pilgrims from all over Romania.
The monastery of St. Mary of Radna is a monastery located in the town of Lipova, Arad. The monumental complex consists of the church proper and three other buildings, all historical and architectural monuments from the 18th and 19th centuries. The first documentary mentions of monastic activity in this place date from around 1327
Dear visitors, the exploration of Lipova in the evening has come to an end.
THE END!
