Hello everyone. I went to the farm this morning and as i was farming I saw this little creature and I want to share it with hive community.
A flower mantis (40 mm or 1+1⁄2 in) native to Africa, Pseudocreobotra ocellata is also known as the African flower mantis or, with other species, the spiny flower mantis . From South Africa and Angola in the south to Uganda in the east and Senegal in the west, this species can be found throughout its range. In 1805, French naturalist Palisot de Beauvois wrote a description of it.
Description
The adult's striking, disruptive cream and green coloring effectively blends in with damp leafy areas and flowers. The length of each sex is 25 mm and 32 mm, respectively. The male has six spiny projections under the abdomen, while the female has five. The female can only fly for a short time because her wings are narrower than the male's, which are longer and wider than the abdomen.
Ecology and Behavior
Similar to Pseudocreobotra wahlbergii, P. ocellata employs a deimatic display to frighten predators by marking its wings with a large, vivid eyespot. Adults imitate flowers aggressively, waiting for prey to come close so they can grab it with their forelegs.
