Can you spot the odd one out?
Common Guillemots are back on our cliffs and at this time of year look really crisp and clean after a winter at sea. By the end of the breeding season many will be matted with the poo or 'guano' of other Guillemots such is their proximity to each other on the ledges.
Check out the bird in the middle and its beautiful eyewear. It’s still a Common Guillemot but is known as being ‘bridled’, an example of dimorphism in the species. The percentage of these bridled birds in the UK increases as you travel further north so you have a great chance of seeing one in Orkney or Shetland.
