The kids of Ethiopia - inspired by the last episode of Austin Augie

I just finished to watch the Austin Augie's recent 8th and i think it's a last episode about his two weeks travel to India. I love his documentary style of video and stills storytelling. And it's not should be something extremely exotic like this trip to India, he know to bring an amazing POV from his everyday life - about the living room-studio in NY, about his dedication to BMX, his dog and his photography.
And this trip to the India wasn't an exception. The main reason of this travel was the wedding of his friend-client, which he should document of film - but this time with both - stills and motion film.
Actually this part was totally missed by him, i guess we will see the episode about the wedding soon, when he will get the exposed celluloid from the lab.
You can find his YT profile with the link i put above and to find all the parts - each after other - 8 awesome parts about the India trip, and many others about everything else.

Today my post is dedicated to something reminded me my travel through Ethiopia. Somewhere almost in the end he met a group of kids, following him. And almost impossible to get what exactly they want from him - money, food, picture or just an attention.

This image i photographed in Soroka village, located on the road to the Northern area of Ethiopia and Sudan. This village is kinda border between the Amhara and Tigray Regions of the country. In a few years this area became a Tigray war area.

They came to our small camp in the fields just in a few minutes of our arriving. The team was busy with filming video and i tried to attract kids with some sport activity :-))

We brought a ball with us, just with the idea to give them to children we meet this day. The happiness of the kids was indescribable. So, when one say how unfortunate and unhappy these kids are just because they don't have a smartphones in their hands, he should see this happy smiles just because they got the ball. These days not many can be happy just because small things the life is bring to them. A "having everything people" just lost this wonderful ability to be happy just because.

Finally the ball found its thorn and was pierced, so next day we brought them another stronger ball.

Some of them saw their digital images for the first time on the display of a digital camera.

And again, i have no idea how their telegraph is working, but no matter where we appear, they appeared almost simultaneously.

In the deprived of electricity districts of Bahir Dar, or clay villages around Gondar.

And here the series of the Behind the Scenes moments, with the team surrounded by the same happy and curious faces.

And this iconic moment.

Well, in Addis Ababa the kids were a little bit more business oriented and some tried to sell us something or just to ask for money.

But, most of kids needed this attention. Some of them answered in very poor English, but all of them were all together repeating every phrase or the word said by us. The word "show" was the most popular - they wanted to see every single photographed image of them and tried to take a manage on the camera buttons on them during looking through photographs on the camera small screen.
