The Red Dragonfly or with the scientific name Zygoptera is one of the most powerful and ferocious predators in the animal kingdom, even able to rival the level of an African lion or a white shark which is notoriously ferocious in the ocean.
African lions are indeed recorded as the top carnivore in the food chain, but this big cat is only able to catch 25 percent of the total prey they chase while white sharks only manage to catch half of the total prey they hunt, try to compare it with dragonflies that look tiny but behind their appearance Its "friendly" flats are able to capture almost any prey with a success rate of up to 95 percent.
All dragonfly species are known as harmless insects, even red dragonflies are included in the list of insects that humans like because besides being tiny these dragonflies have very attractive colors.
Recent research conducted by a team of scientists at Rutgers University in the United States shows dragonflies to be the most brutal and effective hunters in the animal kingdom.
Robert M. Olbert from Union College, who reported his research in the journal proceedings of the National Academy of sciens, found evidence that a dragonfly's path to intercept its prey is similar to the trick used by sailors, with its eyes that the dragonfly can predict its prey's flying direction including angle and speed and then estimate its own flight for catch prey.
Dragonflies, including sophisticated flying insects. They can hover in the air, dive in the water, fly backwards and upside down making it easier to catch the prey without the prey noticing, then tear the prey's body and continue to chew it until it forms a lump before finally swallowing it.
The characteristic feature of the red dragonfly is that it has brownish red patches on the hind wings and clear on the front wings
The red dragonfly has a body length of 4 cm, a front wingspan of 7 mm and a front wing length of 3.1 cm and a rear wing width of 1.1 mm and a stomach length of 2.5 cm and a leg length of 1.5 cm.
