Walk of life - woohooo

in Photography Lovers • 3 years ago

Thought birds only fly? They walk too.. and they walk in style 😀

"He got the action, he got the motion
Oh yeah, the boy can play
- Dire Straits"

The more matured ones among us (read 'oldies'😀) will certainly remember this famous Dire Straits number. Hearts throbbed and we all walked the walk of life those days to the tune of that song...

I always remember it when the birds, who can actually FLY, walk on ground. I am presenting some interesting clicks taken by me here, that show birds walking and their reasons (probably) of doing the walk of life.

Walking to the Wedding Altar?😀

This little 3 inch TALL rain quail can fly but it chooses to fly only if it feels threatened. Otherwise it comfortable walks on ground and forages. This particular one, was walking on ground and climbed this nice flat rock - they like to do that to gain a bit of height and then sound off the mating call. So - literally, the little guy walked up the altar and was calling to his bride 😀😀

The fastest bird in the world walking - Why ??

I was amazed to find this Peregrine falcon parading around on ground for over 10-15 minutes. I crawled closer and closer silently and clicked several images. I even made a gif from those images .. Actually I made it backwards by mistake and the Falcon appears to moon walk😂

Moonwalk !!

Jokes apart - the question in mind was why was this mighty raptor, who can fly fast and dive at an incredible 200 miles per hour, walking on ground? After the 10-15 minutes walk up and down, the falcon stopped and took a big dump 😀 So - I guess the walk was part of it's 'morning stretching and relieving' routine!

Sometimes I find birds walking up and down the corn cobs too.

Walking ON food ? Perhaps for a 'balanced diet'?😀

For example, this finch was waling up and down the cob. I think it was just trying to find a particularly succulent portion of seeds but it looked so funny walking up and down like that!

So - we have seen birds walking for finding high ground for mating calls, for getting digestion system flowing and for finding food but there are some bids who walk around and keep an eye on things I suppose. This barred button quail certainly seemed to walk around and keep and eye on things in it's territory...

Walking and keeping an eye on the territory

Then there was this Blue-throat which was almost doing a ramp walk. Perhaps showing off it's necklace pattern to attract a mate?

Ramp walk to show off the colorful necklace pattern - to a potential mate?

Last but not the least - the one that most impressed me was this walk alone by a baby Pratincole. Perhaps this was one of the first walks away from it's parents. Looking cute and confident - beginning the walk of life'

Bravely walking away from parents - beginning the walk of life?

Have you observed any birds walking and found out the reasons? Please share your photos, observations and comments freely. If you find any other interesting wildlife observations too, please comment. Perhaps I can get some interesting images and start a discussion through another post.

Hope you enjoyed seeing the images. I will try to bring many different types of wildlife photos/macro/Astro posts to the community. Feedback and comments are welcome,. I am still learning many techniques and always value feedback from experts in this community.

Have a nice day everyone. Cheers!

Wow these shots are epic! What a falcon...

Thank you. Your kind words of appreciation always boost my morale.
The Peregrine falcon was a winter migrant in our location. I went at 4:30 am every day from my home to try and get pics for almost 20 days. A 130 KM round trip every day before office hours. Was quite and effort but was worth it I think. 😊

Oh how beautiful! They are attractive birds and your shots reflect excellent information

Thank you so much for your visit to my post and kind words of encouragement

These are some amazing bird close ups. That falcon is really impressive!
